If there’s one item that’ll forever remain a constant in my wardrobe, it’s my trench coat. That storm flap, slightly skirted silhouette and a belt that coordinate to create a timeless outfit-finisher in ways that are slightly Sherlock and quite a bit Girl Boss Nailing Life Or At Least The Sartorial Segment of One. And it’s a pretty great segue jacket for this awkward August weather that we always seem to encounter. Nobody really wants to be heading out in a faux fur-trimmed parka in AUGUST, do they? Enter the trench.

Yesterday, Harvey and I popped out for an afternoon date, a wander hand-in-hand through the old bowling green of our town before grabbing a portion each of fish and chips to enjoy in the sun and we shot these along the way. Of course it’d be Sod’s Law that I decided to balance out my sometimes scandalously short smock dress with a trench coat when rain was forecasted and instead sun appeared the moment we arrived. Come autumn, my trench is flung atop pretty much any outfit. It’s bloody versatile and not just for pairing with black heels and a little office-suitable dress. Good with activewear (imagine it teamed with Outdoor Voices leggings and adidas x Stella McCartney kicks tho!) as well as with sweet weekend-worthy dresses, I thought I’d share how to style a trench coat the Daisybutter way.

Everyday Cute

I’m absolutely besotted with Lazy Oaf’s recent Hello Kitty collaboration and this pink tee is one of my personal favourites. I’ve probably worn it at least once a week since I bought it via ASOS and the fit is just next-level. With it goes these gingham trousers just to elevate the adorability. There’s something so undeniably playful about gingham prints, don’t you think? The great thing about women's trench coats is how versatile they are too: add this Whistles Verity backpack for a practical dose of candyfloss-sweet charm.

Play It Up

I’m sure regular Daisybutter readers are no stranger to the fact that I love high neck silhouettes. Demure, a little sporty and oh so striking, they add depth to your usual clothing pieces and this midi dress makes no exception. I’ve been pining after this Y.A.S dress for the longest time and I think it’d look so cute worn with these yellow Ulla Johnson mules. Yellow on green with an adorable straw bag? Check!

How would you style a trench coat?
