I don’t know what it is about the autumn that always signifies change and clean starts for me and ever since I started blogging six years ago, I’ve liked to swap things up once in a while. So here’s to a pretty new home for my online words.
I decided to stray from my usual format this time – thanks Winnie and Mandy for being my mini cheerleading team! The homepage now takes on a grid style, similar to my beloved (and ancient) Tumblr layout, and to be honest I dithered for absolutely ages over it because it’s so different! However I’ve decided I love it now, it’s a little bit Instagram-inspired, and most of us read single posts via Bloglovin’ now anyway, eh? Me included! I hope it isn’t too much of an unbearable change for you guys, I mean, I really like it. Oh, and I’m still in the process of rejigging all of my photos so they’ll display at their best.
Life lately has included hanging out with Jade, planning Christmas gifts and preparing for the re-launch of A for Aesthetic. Some of you will remember that back when I was still in University, my friend (not a blogger!) Lauren and I launched a magazine named Aesthetic, and this year we decided to bring it back to its best, polished up for 2015. We launched it about a week or so ago and are really enjoying being back in the swing of things with it. So of course I wanted to share it with you, on here. I’d adore your support with me on this project and hope you’ll find something to learn, love and inspire over there! You can find us here!
I'm also really into cooking at the moment and am hoping to share some recipes both here and over on A! So! Back to normal business tomorrow if I can prise myself away from my anime marathon to finish a new post – today’s series of choice is a cheeky re-watch of Sword Art Online. Don't forget to let me know what you think of the new layout (:
Things I Learnt This Time:
- Keep a note of the components that you’ll be taking over to your new design. About a week before I installed my new layout, I listed out things like my Google Analytics code, my network spaces, Instagram widget… Basically, all the things you tend to forget usually exist on your layout.
- Make a new note of your image sizes, alignments, etc. for easy reference when you’re working on new posts!
- Etsy is bloody genius.
- Ask a friend to browse your site before it goes live. See how they naturally use the site and features, where does their mouse tend to go? How do they read it? Do you need to tweak the layout for non-blogger readers?
- Don’t overthink the new layout and #changes, they’ll be worth it in the end.
