Some notes on the idea of fearlessness.
“To me, Fearless is not the absense of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, Fearless is having fears. Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death.” - Taylor Swift

Being fearless isn’t about not being afraid. It’s about having fears and doing things anyway. I bloody love Taylor Swift. From the moment I heard those words back in 2008, I’ve tried to live by them.

By nature I’m timid, shy, introverted and, well, fearful. Because going hand in hand with my timidity, shyness and introversion comes a lack of confidence or a passive semblance of confidence. Actually though, I’ve realised I am confident; I’m capable of far much more than you or even I could imagine. It just took a stroke of fearlessness to realise that.

You often read in the media, hear on the streets or tell each other to take and savour every moment as it comes. Relish it because you don’t know how long it’ll last or whether that moment will come again. Happiness and contentment can be fleeting. It’s fearless to have fears and lots of them, yet coming out on top everyday despite them. It’s fearless to be terrified of telling someone how you feel but doing so because you never know what’ll happen next. It’s fearless to trust your instincts and your gut - yes, really - because not one person on this planet knows you better than yourself. It’s fearless to pore over your blog every evening, letting thoughts, opinions, talent and skill touch the screen and be shared all around the world. It’s fearless to spend your Friday night cosied at home with a cup of tea (and two sugars) because you’ve pushed yourself every single day that week and you deserve it, lady. It’s fearless to leap out of your comfort zone and attend your very first blog event alone.

Every day it’s a good thing to take a moment and remind yourself to be fearless. You can be everything you want to be and do everything you want to do. Fearlessness doesn’t be going all out and doing crazy, reckless things, it can be as simple as talking to someone, not talking to anyone, going for a 5k run, popping the A/C on and practicing yoga for an hour.

Choose fearless. (:

  1. Love this post so much!! I totally relate to you, I'm a shy & introverted girl as well and sometimes it's easy to doubt my capabilities or let the fear of failure run my life. But yes, I also believe that I deserve more and that I can do more. I want to be fearless. Like some say, I want to feel the fear and do it anyway!

I bloody love Taylor Swift too, she's such an inspiration in so many ways #girlpower :) x

  6. Thanks so much for this post , I always need a little reminder that I can't just stick to a routine that I feel comfortable in , I need to be fearless and experience the world. Thanks Michelle <3 http://minalousha.blogspot.co.uk/

  7. You know , I've always wanted to try out ballet , but I never danced as a child , so I guess it would be a bit hard to get into it because I definitely don't have a dancers body nor feet , but It's a wish that may never be fulfilled especially because most of the dance studios in London are so bloody expensive (sigh) . Back to the point this summer I would like to :
    - Read 3 novels
    - Learn to play a few songs on the piano
    - Loose 9lbs because well i've gained a few during exam season
    - As you have mentioned , sort out my nails because of all this stress i'm going to end up nail-less. :)
So yeah that about it for my summer list.
Goodluck on your list Michelle can't wait to here about your secret project . xx

  9. Woozers!!! I hope that during uni, I'll be able to expose myself to more of the contemporary dances. Ah, sweating just sounds so fun right now (Haha, jkjk! I sweat way too much every time I go to dance class)

  12. Thanks Joana! I think I often tread the line between feeling too shy for things but also wanting to grab every opportunity. It's ALL about feeling the fear and doing it anyway! x

  13. Thanks Sarah! Yes! Fearless isn't always about the adrenaline rush of, say, a skydive or something, but about taking control and doing the things that YOU want to.
