G/F, 19 Shing Wong Road, Central, Hong Kong.
A few weekends ago I finally managed to tick off another location on my brunch list - Common Ground. Situated in the trendy Sheung Wan/Central district, Common Ground is a sleepy kitchen run by a set of twins. All wooden and mismatched inside, it's the kinda place my dreams are made of. It's touted the best coffee shop in Hong Kong, actually.

The menu is small but substantial with breakfast options as well as light bites and, of course, a hearty coffee list. I'd certainly like to go back for a late lunch one day and sample the salad or a burger. Prices are relatively affordable for a weekend brunch affair. I opted for a HK Honey Americano to drink as it seemed like the most 'different' thing: perfectly chilled for a steamy ol' afternoon! Whilst I'm not usually an Americano girl, this had plenty of bite and flavour to it, even swimming with ice cubes. My only qualm is that I couldn't work out what the 'Hong Kong honey' part could be.

I opted for the CG All Day Breakfast, beautifully presented on a wooden board, in aesthetically pleasing sections. Of course if you're expecting a traditional Full English, this isn't it, I'd recommend Brunch Club or The Flying Pan for that, but regardless, it was yummy! The bacon was crispy and streaky, the toast ends brilliantly crunchy, both sausages flavourful and lightly smoked, and even the scrambled egg made me happy. It was the perfect size for me (I skipped the mushrooms, you see) and a nice way to gear up for a Saturday on the dark side.

I also liked the location. Super quaint and tucked away behind Staunton Street, it's convenient and it's perfectly calm within. I often feel overwhelmed by how busy eateries are in Hong Kong!

  7. Did Common Ground open recently? I've been to Hong Kong so many times but never been. It does seem like a pretty neat and quaint cafe. Love the presentation of the food on a wooden platter!
