Oftentimes friends and strangers alike laud me for my unwavering enthusiasm. My persistent faith that there's a silver lining to every cloud and my hippie-esque outlook towards most if not all situations. Hopelessly lost on an accidental hike in Sai Kung with no water and only mints for sustenance? We can't be the only ones who've been lost on a long hike. I'm almost certain we won't die of dehydration... It's odd, isn't it though? That unadulterated enthusiasm and positivity is all too often seen as a rarity. Dat British standoffishness, eh?
I champion child-like enthusiasm with every fibre of my being. Being completely unfiltered in my love for the mundane beauty in everyday, for anything Hello Kitty or Little Twin Stars, for my favourite drink coming in carton form, for the swings being free at the local park. That pure, non-jaded vision towards every moment. I truly live for it. I think I went through a phase where it was cool to be cool, whether you were or not. Fake it 'til you make it is the mantra so often thrown about in the industry I chose; fashion. Just pretend you're too cool to take your sunglasses off indoors. You're too cool (cold?!) to coat properly. Novelty and cute things 'should be' left behind when you turn 18. You're only 'allowed' to like Taylor Swift ironically or if it's the 1989 album.
Honestly? Life is too short for that.
I was that guy who unwaveringly stood up for Taylor Swift from 2008 and onwards. I couldn't even tell you how much I adore that woman. I'd give a limb for her but I know she wouldn't be down for that. The lounge in my apartment is decorated with talking Pikachu toys, Hello Kitty plushies and handmade lucky paper stars, not marble work surfaces, copper lamps and cacti. (Secret: I'm working on getting cacti. I'm just too lazy for the flower market.) Yes, sometimes I do laugh too loudly at things that seem only half-funny to you. So what if it's Monday? Smile and the world smiles with you.
Today, be the reason for someone else's smile.
