”Espresso Patronum!”, My beautiful kitty Archie, A sunset by the docks, Make your own guar at Chiquito’s, Trinkets, Mint green and brightest pink, Little puppy Eric, South Western House, More trinkets at The Loft Ladder.

The only way I seem to deal with big real life things is to pack a suitcase and swan off somewhere that isn’t quite home. So I did. I took a flying visit to my old student city of Southampton to visit my best friend and our cat, and it was just what I needed to welcome in the spring, celebrate our birthdays (belatedly) with present swapping - hence the beyond-amazing-and-witty Espresso Patronum mug - and plenty of pizza.

I love rediscovering Southampton from a new perspective every time. I think I grew to… strongly dislike it at one point, but take away the dissertation woes and all of those other mundane complaints, and actually, it ain’t all bad. Beautiful buildings, little beaches (over in Weston, fyi, if you’re brave enough), good company and even better food. I discovered a cute nook up in the Marlands mall called The Loft Ladder which is full of reclaimed and upcycled homeware and trinkets too. Next time though? I need to make a hot date with Sprinkles. How very dare Southampton open up a gelato bar after I’d left?!

  1. Think I'm in the strong-dislike phase for my university town right now too, and it's 100% dissertation-related... So I'm really glad that you've grown to love Southampton again! Oh, and I love that bright lip colour - what product did you use?

  4. I used to go to Southampton quite a bit when I lived in Bournemouth, as it was one of the closest big shopping places. I really liked it there, and I love that mug!

  6. I'm starting to think about leaving my university city for the final time, so it's really lovely to read about your experience of visiting your old one!
Packing up a weekend bag and heading off to somewhere that you can forget about things for a few days is the best way to deal with most problems, I have to say xx

    1. Thank you Francesca! I've been an avid fan of just getting in my car or on a train/plane and escaping this year, so much easier to run than sort out problems ;)

  9. That mug is life :o I am actually looking forward the point in my life (though it feels like it'll never come) when I can look forward to making that familiar journey to London because it won't be met with UNI.

    1. I literally died when I opened it, my best friend knows me so well. Haha it's always better when Uni isn't involved, basically. Lucky for you London is teeming with things to do, see and explore!
