Sky high on my list of places to visit has always, always been Morocco. A quick browse of my Pinterest and Tumblr accounts will depict my borderline obsession for the Moroccan decor and architecture style, whilst of course a burgeoning love for their food has always been there.

It isn’t often that you’re invited for a short break away in the lagging winter weeks for some much needed sunshine, girly gossip and an escape from reality, so last week Sarah, Elodie, Tanya, Sarah and I hopped on a plane and landed 3 hours later in Marrakech, ready for our transfer to Essaouira, a truly beautiful fisherman’s town in Morocco. Read: heaven. Are you ready to feast your eyes on scrapbook one of our holiday?

We arrived at the breathtakingly beautiful Dar Lazuli riad - home for 4 days, but more on this later - late on Friday night and were pleasantly greeted by our fabulous housekeepers Rachid and Latifa. I’m sure they now think us five girls are a) insane on account of our terrace parties with a Madonna soundtrack, and b) need to be surgically removed from our smartphones! They prepared an incredible spread of fresh bread and traditional chicken and apricot tagine for our dinner, and we all settled in to our individual apartments.

Our first day was largely spent exploring our stunning riad and local surroundings. From discovering a lovely breakfast nook that offered Moroccan pancakes, some of the best bread and fresh marmalade known to man and free Wi-Fi, to beginning to tour the souks within the Medina, I absolutely loved finally being to see the crumbling buildings and stunning walls (and doors!!) for myself.

We shopped with one of our housekeepers, Latifa, for fresh vegetables and ingredients down in the souks, seeing so much culture and everyday happenings on Saturday morning. Moroccan cuisine had me at hello, but then we were also treated to learning how to cook a traditional couscous with beef, and a cream cheese filo parcel starter too! Amazing.

In the afternoon, the girls and I couldn’t resist a wander to the beach to be quite honest. Soak up that Vitamin D whilst the UK denies us of that privilege, eh? Stay tuned for Day 2 in my Morocco travel photo diary series - plenty more a’coming with bonus food talk, a vlog(!!) and riad apartment tour too! x
