2013 was the year of print revival at Chez Daisybutter.

From running another 3 issues of Aesthetic magazine (stay tuned for news on that!), to investing in my Instax Mini 8 camera just before the summer hit, I really lapped up taking a step back from the digital realm last year.

What's more, I finally got round to refreshing my bedroom decor and adding little personal touches with Polaroid or Polaroid-esque details. Here are the Polaroid ideas that I've squeezed into my dime of a bedroom and around the house:

Mini Pegs and String

My most talked and asked about decor feature is the hanging string of photos above my bed. Easy to assemble, I showcase around 8-10 of my favourite Instax snaps here. To do so, simply pin up some white string on your wall at a loose curve, grab a mini peg (both the pegs and string are readily available at craft stores) and clip up! I love using my decorative film for this, and grabbing a Sharpie to scribble notes and dates on some photos.

Wardrobe Collage

Is this a bit... angsty teen? I don't know. But I recently ordered a batch of Polaroid inspired prints from Origrami and ended up splattering a couple on my doors to add an extra something. I adore these prints. They rejig your Instagram photos to a Polaroid format, dropping photo tags, the caption, date and amount of likes on the reverse. Simply grab some GluDots and pin up haphazardly.

Clip Frames

I really like mismatched frames, but to take it to the next level, I'm currently enjoying clip frames. They're easy to switch up and look cutesy and decorative too. Simply clip in a Polaroid for an instant decor update.

Gifting

My Instax Mini 8 comes everywhere with me. A moment captured on instant film makes a lovely gift; especially with the demise of print, making these a rarity. I gave a group snap from Sophie's birthday dinner for Sophie to keep, a little Polaroid of my baby cousin is now my Granny's favourite thing, and with Valentine's Day coming up, a secret snap could be the perfect gift slipped into a card and paired with a novelty gift of choice. (Soz, I'm one of those novelty gift fanatics.)

Office Team Decor
Not one for everyone but if you're a business owner or manager, moving to a new office, taking a funny/cheesy Instax photo of each of your team/office and throwing it up on a corkboard makes a great team activity. I did this on the main fashion shoot for my last issue of Aesthetic, models, MUAs and all!

Which is your favourite Polaroid mode of decoration?

  3. The mini pegs and string is positively tumblr-rific. And I love that you gift photos - very sentimental! I love polaroids - they're so much more nostalgia-inducing than regular photos! It's sad that pretty much all photos are stored digitally now, but I really like the Origrami idea. Just need to take some ye olde-looking photos to be worth printing out!
