Daisybutter - UK Style and Fashion Blog: 2013 new year resolutions
Welcome 2014!

And with that, we’re welcoming in a shiny new year! I’ve got high hopes for this year and it looks pretty promising upon first glance with no firm plans other than my new job, Red Tour, Hong Kong and having my brother home again following his Uni jaunt. As with every year, let’s have a look at the obligatory goals or resolutions for the next 365, shall we?

1. Get and keep fit.
Someone pass me a cool Muji flannel because I don’t think I’m feeling right. I kid, I kid. This year, one of my main goals is to get to the gym more and get fit and more toned. Not many people online know this about me but I was once a stage school/dance school girl and, since leaving those days behind, my my is my bawdee feeling it. Thankfully my new office has a free gym for employees which I fully intend to check out and make use of! In the meantime, I’m also going to fritter in some Blogilates routines to my weekly schedule.

2. Visit more places abroad and domestically.
Last year I really wanted to book an October break to Seoul, South Korea to make the most of their autumnal weather and to explore a city that is truly diverse and seems wholeheartedly intriguing to me. Alas, work commitments meant I couldn’t even take a weekend off, so I’m hoping to book and spend some time there this year. Five (!!) years ago I also visited Osaka, Japan which remains to be one of my favourite cities but would love to try my hand at Tokyo or Kyoto. I’m also planning to “jet set" across England to visit my girls Gem, Emma and Winnie up in Brum, see as much of my best friend back in Southampton as possible, and try out some new towns and cities in humble England.

3. Live for the moment, more.
I’m a serial sentimentalist. Or a mentalist. You decide. Last year I probably spent about 4 months dwelling on a large chunk of my year (and more) that didn’t work out as anticipated, and it left me in a permanently terrible mood. Having spent many an hour on Tumblr and Pinterest - the more therapeutic modes of social media - I think I’ve pretty much accepted things as they are, and 2014 is gonna be all about living for the moment and making the most of every day.

4. Give the blog some TLC.
I fell back in love with Daisybutter at the beginning of last year, my attention waned mid-year (see point 3) and then I was super re-inspired but pressed for time towards the latter part. This year I really want to put all of my creativity back into the blog instead of dividing it across so many other ports. I’ve got some fresh feature ideas, plans to renew old favourites and my wardrobe is newly cleared out and pumped up for sartorial chatter.

5. Refresh my bedroom decor.
I'm still in two minds about the whole flying the nest and leaving home thing, but this year I'm going to redo my bedroom again. I've been semi-proactive about the idea and my Pinterest is full of ideas on this board, but it's going to be a little more fresh, sleek with hints of personality about the place. First on the list is an almighty trip to Ikea next week!

6. Eat a little healthier.
My two-year stint in London has left me with a terrible eating habit. Whilst trying new cuisines and restaurants and using mealtime as socialising time is still top of my list, I need to reconsider my eating habits and maybe limit a meal out to once a fortnight. Leading swiftly to my next point...

7. Save up, dammit.
Whilst I feel like I say this every year and last year I did actually meet my goal for savings, this year I'm going to try and make some monumental savings for The Future, instead of randomly buy, I don't know, a new designer handbag. I've finally swapped freelance life for permanent job times and really hope that I've made the right choice! Plus I've got some teeny tiny plans to move abroad in the future and kinda want to get ahead on that.

8. Stay focused.
Finally, my only other real aim for twenty-fourteen is to stay focused and, in turn, happy. Last year I began to feel more and more unhappy for a multitude of reasons and it brought me down completely. I’m a positive and tolerant kinda gal, so this year, the plan is to bring that back, focus, spend time with the best and just feel happy. More to follow.

And here's how I did on my 2013 goals...
· Save at least 20% of my earnings each month. (12/12)
· Indulge in doing what I love.
· Say 'yes' to new/more opportunities.

· Read 20 new books. (16/20)
· Start and keep up a new feature on my blog.
· Buy my perfect faux fur coat.
· Go back to Hong Kong.
· Be a better long distance friend.
· Stop being such a cynic.

· See Beast and BtoB in concert.
· Go to 5 concerts. (2/5)
· Buy some Polaroid film - or an Instax camera - and document more moments on film.
· Be more positive.

· Walk up the stairs at work at least twice a week. (37/104) Kept up with while in the old office. Fourteen flights of stairs = dealbreaker. ;)
· Go on a city break or holiday.
· Move up in my career path.
· Donate at least a third of my wardrobe to the British Heart Foundation.
· Cut down on coffee. Ditto caffeine and soft drinks.
· Make more use of my weekends.
· See my friends from University whenever possible.

· Expand Daisybutter to new territories and audiences.

What are your hopes and goals for the new year? You can, as ever, keep up with my yearly goals over here. I’m hoping to do a better job than last year and fingers crossed we can all motivate each other with our resolutions and goals. x

    1. Happy New Year to you too Amy!

I've already been looking at flights and I think I might even go in the spring to make the most of the weather and scenery. Fingers crossed, eh?

  7. Yay - think my favourite resolution is the one where you're coming up to Birmingham! Let's get bubble tea and eat some Korean food yes? Looking forward to seeing you very soon then :) I need to save better this year too...Happy 2014 x

    1. Yes indeed! I hardly ever travel around the UK, being relatively close to London, but it's about time that I broadened my horizons and visited new places on my own. I wholeheartedly agree with both of those food choices ;)

  8. Happy New Year, Michelle! I'd like to have a regular fitness routine this year too, I didn't make it one of my goals because I say it every year and never do it, so I'm thinking if I don't talk about it too much, I might actually keep up with it ;)

You did incredibly well with your goals from last year, it must be so inspiring to have been able to tick off so many! I'm wishing you all the best for this year, I'm sure it's going to be even more amazing than the last! <3

    Jennie xo |

    1. Happy New Year to you too Jennie! And birthday wishes to the blog ;) I'm really hoping I stick to the fitness one this year as I was once so active and that has completely stopped since moving to Uni and then having my blog to take up my spare time! Thank you so much girly, wishing you all the best with yours, too!

  9. I dwell on things more than I should too and hope to live for the moment like you said. I definitely need to get out my shell too and start looking into a career I enjoy! It's great you hit most of your goals and worked towards them, incredible! Best of luck for 2014!

  12. Good luck for your 2014 goals Michelle, looks like you did a fab job last year & I really like how inspiring they are <3

I'm definitely guilty of worrying too much and not living for the moment, so that alongside travelling will be two of my goals to start 2014! xo

    Sophie | soinspo

    1. Thank you SO much Sophie! That's so kind of you to say. Mm me too, I certainly need to live for the moment more. Already booked my first holiday so we're off to a good start!

  13. Happy new year Michelle! You did brilliantly with your goals last year so I'm sure you'll have no problem sticking to these ones. I think it's so important to live for the moment. I'm a dweller too & often replay conversations in my head. I really need to stop that haha. Anyway I hope 2014 treats you very well xx

    1. Aw thanks darling! I've been so disciplined with mine in recent years, can't wait to get stuck in to them this year. You too Caroline, wishing you all the best! xx
