Having come out alive of a British heatwave (read: tropical weather and subterranean conditions on the Tube), and inspired by a feature I read on Super Savvy Me, I thought it was about time I chronicled my ode to summer makeup on this here blog. Throughout the many, albeit slowly-dying-out, selcas/selfies on my Instagram feed, one question remains a constant: 'What do you wear on your face? Anything? Nothing…?'

Everyday makeup routine, inspired by Super Savvy Me.

I'm a big fan of the au natural look all year around. An honest to goodness, smooth and dewy complexion with a smattering of somethin' glowy, a little eyeliner (sometimes) and a peachy cheek, and I'm good to go.

The Super Savvy Me tutorial promises a flawless complexion, and I'll put my hands up now and admit that I've never suffered from acne, rarely get spots and am the possessor of a very forgiving light olive complexion. That being said, my problem areas are a couple of pigment freckles on my cheeks, dark under-eyes from hours spent not sleeping and sometimes a dull complexion from terrible diet. Sorry.

My one summer/all year product is the Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream. Talk BB creams anywhere near me and I'll probably interject to tell you that this is the best product in the world, and for me, it is! Whilst it has a slightly ashy look to it upon application, it blends out perfectly and leaves a beautiful dewy, soft glow look to the skin. If I've had a particularly restless sleep, my tip for a flawless complexion is a little Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer daubed precisely on blemishes and worked into the skin with a Japonesque Foundation Brush.

For the warmer months, I really like to keep my face as clean looking and product free as possible. My brows are left unfilled, simply brushed through with a spoolie, and then I apply a little eyeliner to define my eyes. The Elizabeth Arden Gel Eyeliner remains my favourite for smudgeproof liner on the upper lash line, and I even like the freebie brush it came with. Asian lashes? See here for my mascara recommendations because pal, I've been there and done that with short stubby straight lashes. My current go to is by Majolica Majorca - it is love.

To sort out my flawless natural makeup look, I then pop a tiny bit of Topshop's Cream Blush in Head Over Heels on my cheeks, add my everyday lipstick (CHANEL Coco Rouge Shine in Boy) and there ya go: blogging face - on.
Disclaimer: I was inspired to write this post by an article on Super Savvy Me. The content of this post is all my own, and it's probably worth noting that I wear makeup around three days of the week, which paired with my skincare routine contributes largely to my clear-ish complexion.

  1. Ah I'm envious of your clear complexion! The sun seems to have done wonders for my skin at the moment, so much so that I only need a sweep of bronzer instead of any foundation/BB cream, but I seem to always have something that needs covering up! You've sold me on the Missha BB cream anyway. Next trip to HK (fingers crossed Christmas) I'll be picking it up!

    1. Oh definitely, the sun has really improved the radiance of mine too. I still prefer a little BB cream though as mine has SPF 42+++ which protects it perfectly! There's an eBay seller that I'll Tweet you about actually! x

  6. Wooh! I love the Missha BB Cream. I only use it on days when I don't feel like putting on an entire face, but still want to look decent.

  8. The only BB cream I've tried is a rubbishy shop brand one, so I might have to look at this Missha one and give it a go, I much prefer going for the natural look like you so this post is really helpful, thanks!

  9. You have the best skin Michelle, quite jealous - I tan too easily! I like Dr. Jart but I'm hoping to pick up some more BB creams when I'm in HK. I like the Missha ones too and the MM mascaras are my favourite, very natural and non clumpy - exactly what I look for!

    1. Ah I've heard terrible things about both the MAC and Garnier ones. Haven't really dipped my toe into Western BB creams yet, but I hear the Dr. Jart and Dior ones are pretty good! x

  18. I've found that I just don't suit anything make up wise that isn't a 'natural look' as it seems too much for me, so I'm also a big fan of the basics as you do always look lovely! x

  19. Like you, I'm a big fan of the natural look. Sometimes I'll go crazy with a slightly over the top blush (you know I love my blush) or a crazy bright lip, but most of the time I think less is more. I've always been envious of your complexion, you're one of those lucky ladies that doesn't need make up at all!

I really want to try one of those Chanel lipsticks at some point, the packaging is gorgeous and all the colours look gorgeous! <3
