Summer Skincare v2.0.

When the warmer months roll round and, satisfyingly, I can flip my calendar over to June (this year's calendar means I get to look at BIGBANG's T.O.P at least twice a day!), my skincare ramps up a notch and make-up choices are few and far between. I'm often asked about my skincare and about which foundation I wear - I don't, btw - so today I'm doing an almighty round-up of what goes on behind closed bathroom cabinet doors.

Cleansing
My skincare story begins with a plethora of cleansers. Commuting to London five days a week means that my main skincare concern is that of cleanliness. As soon as I get home, I use the Bourjois Eye Make-up Remover on a Muji Peelable Cotton Pad to get rid of mascara and eyeliner. The Muji cotton wool pads are a lifesaver - my essential purchase by far, so soft, and they come in little stacks of three, which you soak with product and peel apart to get more use.

I follow up with the Kiehl's Washable Cleansing Milk, my go-to cleanser for the rest-of-face. I first bought this a year and a half ago, and, now on my fourth bottle, it is a staple in my routine. I massage a little all over the face and leave it there for five to ten minutes to boost moisture and radiance. Splashing warm/cold water (dependant on if I'm morning- or evening-cleansing) removes all traces of make-up and impurities. Sometimes I switch things up and use the Laneige Multi Cleanser, but this is a little drying for my Normal skin. I guess I mostly like it for the micro exfoliant beads!

Exfoliating
Cleansing aside, two or three times a week I also like to follow up with an exfoliator to encourage radiance. The Saem's Micro Peel Soft Gel is a dream to use. Fresh and a little fruity, fragrance wise, the exfoliator has unique leaf style beads to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. I use a 5p sized amount, working it gently across the face, starting from the centre of my face and moving outwards. If you can get your hands on this (I bought mine in Citiwalk in Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong), I would highly recommend grabbing one.

On the more accessible side of things, I still reach for my St. Ives Apricot Invigorating Exfoliating Scrub on a regular basis. I've regularly sung my praises for this scrub on the blog before but still love it and it has yet to fail me.

Toning
Toning is a skincare step that I often 'forget about', whether intentionally or not. Let's not beat about the bush, it often seems a bit pointless, no? I digress... The Saem's Gem Miracle Toner Essence has completely turned my skincare routine around, steering it into a 'woah everything has changed' direction. The Saem's toner contains beads suspended in a gel-like texture for a radiance boosting product. I massage one pump into the skin, bringing it down to my neck, every time I cleanse my face, and it has visibly improved the texture, tone and colour of my skin.

Moisturising
Up until very recently, I struggled with finding my perfect moisturiser. I used Lancome skincare religiously between the ages of 13 to 17/18, but decided to start branching out when my parents stopped buying me things! This year I finally caved and got my hands on the Jurlique Balancing Day Moisturiser. Cue no make-up days weeks galore. If you're not a huge fan of rose scents, I'd stray away, but the moisturising properties are to die for - moisture that lasts all day without ever feeling - or looking - greasy.

Not to forget the lips, I pop my KORRES Guava Lip Butter on before sleeping every night to ensure a dose of pamper. The white cast that the Guava version leaves isn't great for daytime, so I've finally found a place for my favourite balm in my evening routine!

Pampering Bolt-ons
To coin a phrase from Anna, my skincare stash also plays host to a few pampering bolt-ons. In the evening, things get a little more interesting with extra pamper packs and more. I use an eye cream without fail every evening to prevent wrinkles, lines and under eye circles. As a freelancer and nightowl, I frequently enjoy late nights cooped up in my home office or even just in my bedroom, but the Kiehl's Creamy Avocado Eye Cream means that my under eye circles are a problem of the past. Super hydrating and rich, I firmly believe that it'll help to prevent and reduce the onset of lines.

My skincare routine is currently missing a night cream, so to fill the void and 'make up for lost time', I'm using the Laneige Water Essence Sleeping Pack on a nightly basis. I absolutely LOVE this step in my routine. The sleeping pack comes in a thick gel texture which I massage into the skin with upwards movements. It isn't scented, but has that lovely 'skincare' fragrance that I always connect with Hong Kong and being on holiday.

Finally, my secret skincare recommendation comes in the form of a sheet mask. My favourite. I use sheet masks twice weekly, slotting in an extra one if my skin feels particularly fatigued or in need of a boost. The My Beauty Diary sheet masks are a constant in the skincare wardrobe, my current essentials being the Q10 mask and Hydraulic mask. I think sheet masks are still very much an Asian skincare 'thing', but if you fancy giving one a try, I recommend this box. Trust me, I got this.
