Fujifilm Instax Mini 8.

A few weeks ago, I decided to take the plunge and make a deal with the Instax devil. You know the deal: an unflappably adorable photographic device that instantly develops card-sized photos, but at an eye-wateringly expensive £1+ per snap. Ouch.

I've used Instax cameras throughout my life. My godmother gifted me with a limited edition Hello Kitty instant camera when I was about 9, and then I had another two classic Polaroid cameras between the ages of 12 and 15, but then my taste for digital arrived. I spied the Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 in Hong Kong when I visited for my birthday earlier this year, but repeatedly told myself I didn't 'need' it. Who am I kidding?! I'm a) Chinese, and b) a blogger - of course I needed one.

So far, I've really enjoyed having and using my Instax Mini 8. It is a little cumbersome to carry around but is much smaller than my DSLR and I adore the dreamy photo quality, instant processing and the adorable credit sized card photos. The Instax Mini 8 comes with settings on the lens, as well as a lens filter that I always use. It's been updated so that when you aim the lens at a subject, the camera will choose the optimum setting and you can ensure your mini Polaroids are the best possible quality.

Hand-on-heart, I'd recommend this as a pretty summer buy. I've completely cut down on Instagramming in favour of this, and it comes with me absolutely everywhere! Here's the eBay seller I used to buy mine as well. If you have any tips for making the most of Instax cameras, please do let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear!

  1. This is awesome!

I have an old polaroid but it's so difficult to find decent film for it anymore. This seems like a great little thing to own.

Added to my watch list on eBay!

  8. I have the Mini Instax 25 limited edition hello Kitty version - it's adorable but i haven't used it in a while...maybe I should start again. I've been using some Hello Kitty and Mickey film with mine, too cute!

  11. I got mine about 6 years ago and I still love bringing it out for special occassions (since the film is so pricey!). I might just have to dig it out of my camera box again soon! x

  13. Yay! I have a Fuji Instax Mini 25, it takes the same film.
I get my film cheap off Amazon - 2 packs for £10! Works out at about 50p a shot which isn't bad, especially when my old Polaroid works out at about £2 a picture!

  15. I'm a Polaroid girl myself so I can sympathise with the cost - now that Polaroid have shut down film production and the only place to get any is The Impossible Project, prints are nearly £2 each! I'm toying with the idea of getting an Instax but they seem so cumbersome - are they ok to carry around loose in your bag?

    1. Oh my, nearly £2 per piece?! I really love my Instax, not too bulky at all, I take this out with me most days, and the cost per sheet is slowly easing, I'm completely falling in love with taking film photos again! x

  16. I have always wanted a polaroid camera, but it's just so expensive for the film! Definitely on my wish-list though.

  17. hi! i just recently got my instax mini 8 and i love it! i seem to have a problem with taking outdoor photos though. do you have tips on how to avoid overexposure when taking outdoor pics? mine come out very washed out on a really bright summer day :( i'd love to take more summer pics but i'm afraid of wasting the expensive film on washed out photos!
