If there were ever a reason to keep calm cool and carry on during this typically assumed humid British summer, it'd be in the shape of Animal Crossing. Am I right or am I right? Here's the thing: back in 2006, my sister, brother and I nabbed a copy of Animal Crossing: Wild World and the rest of our summer was spent pruning our town - named Tinytown! - and cheering on as many teams as we could name during the World Cup. Little known fact about me for ya there… football and gaming vs. pretty dresses and dreamy shoes…!

Two years on and we also caved to the plights of Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii (far too clunky for me, the Wii controllers and I do not get along) and here we are today. Gripped in the throes of a challenging small town life, populated by adorable animal critters, in Animal Crossing: New Leaf...

Animal Crossing: New Leaf, available worldwide now for Nintendo 3DS. RRP £26.99 on average. Shop it here.

New Leaf lets you rule the town as the mayor instead of being 'just another villager'. Ooooh yeah. As far as I can tell though, this doesn't really add much to the gameplay other than you get an 'assistant' and a fancy schmancy chair in the Town Hall! I absolutely love playing Animal Crossing, as frivolous and silly as some may see it. My first day in my town - I named it Hogwarts - was spent chilling out in a tent, a new addition, planting and weeding plants to up the green rating of the town and generally getting familiar with things again.

As with the previous AC titles, the game revolves around you pottering around the town, chatting to villagers, fishing, bug catching and sortin' out the weeds. You earn Bells, which is the local currency and this goes towards house upgrades and buying furniture, clothing and haircuts! Love. I've never been more proud than when I achieved a mansion-esque home and swishy haircut in my Wild World town...

I'm going to put my hands up and say that I've spent the better part of the past week on my shiny new Nintendo 3DS XL on this game. It's the perfect commute accompaniment too, although I've also been playing Pokemon Sapphire, easily the best Pokemon generation. Thank you so much to Lucy and Nintendo for gifting the console and game to me - I couldn't have asked for a better start to my summer! Stay tuned for another little AC: New Leaf diary update once I've explored a little more (if I can pull myself away from the screen, that is)...
Disclaimer: My Nintendo 3DS XL console and Animal Crossing: New Leaf game were both gifted very kindly for review by Nintendo. I have not been paid for this post and all opinions are my own.

    1. It's so addictive! Second-hand consoles are quite affordable if you're looking to buy one. Either way, the 3DS XL is completely worth it, I'm buying one for my brother to replace his Lite! xx

  11. I'm currently addicted to New Leaf! I had the first game when it came out on the Gamecube but I've always preferred AC on handheld consoles. I'm loving all the new features and outfits, plus I can finally make the shops stay open later which is way more convenient for me ^_^

    1. Definitely! AC feels much more handheld central than on Gamecubes and Wiis. Oh gosh yes, it's amazing to be the Mayor, and how cute is Tortimer Island as well! xx

  17. I love Animal Crossing! Nintendo is my favorite console/gaming company. I remember playing Animal Crossing on the Gamecube when I was 11, that was awesome! I even got the Animal Crossing for my DS lite. I'm excited for this game as well, though I would have to have a 3DS first.

  18. I do love Animal Crossing. I remember spending so much time on it on the GameCube and falling head over heels. It's just one of those games that hooks you and keeps the concept so simple. I get the same way with Harvest Moon, which I will never tire of! x
