This summer has seen the return of the dipped hem, a look and trend that isn't very highly ranked in many people's books. Often marked as unwearable or erring too far on the dramatic side, the dipped hem look is soft and rightly dramatic in its' own way. There are plenty of ways to incorporate the look into your own wardrobes. ♥
Look One is a candyfloss-colour inspired outfit, injecting muted tones of pink to a look without being too flouncy and overwhelming. Wear the dipped hem shirt untucked with these scallop edged silk-esque shorts from Monki (I tried these on in-store and can confirm they feel really luxe!) for a relaxed, comfy chic look - my ultimate go-to! The little bowler hat is perfect for adding a sprinkle of summer to any outfit, while flatforms add height and improve posture, and the bucket bag? Well, I just couldn't resist!
If you're brave enough, the dipped hem dress is one of my favourite looks at the moment.
I'm loving my Boohoo one, but it's sold out online now! This Glamorous number is flecked with an adorable bird print for something a little different, and while it demands attention, you can easily cover up with a wide stitch knit so all attention falls on that all important hem. Push your sleeves back and stack a few military inspired bracelets on, and finish with rose gold flats.
Finally, opt for a retro, American diner inspired look with this peachy coral Dahlia dipped him skirt. I adore the floaty layers of this skirt: flattering on almost all body types and shapes! Wear with a minty green top for some pastel colour block (three words you never wanted to hear, right?): I really love this Abide Clothing number with that draped pocket detail! Finally, pop a pair of off-white Converse Light on to toughen everything up.
I agree! I have two dipped hem skirts that I couldn't possibly do without! I absolutely love them. They're dramatic, but not too much. It just depends on what you wear them up with.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you paired them up, all different dip hems!
If you would like, you could check out my blog Island of Make Believe and browse some of my outfits where I feature my dip hem skirts. I absolutely adore them <3
They're so flattering, and you don't have to worry about looking-up-skirt issues on escalators :P thanks lovely, just about to have a read of your blog! xx
DeleteI love your style! Everything you picked out is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteAw thank you Heather!

DeleteI have a dipped hem skirt and I definitely find it as one of my most versatile outfit! They can be worn so differently and look just as dramatic each time. You've picked out lovely items, my favourite has to be look 1!

Thank you Jessica! Most of my jersey tops are dipped hems, perfect to wear with leggings (God forbid :P) when lounging around at home ;) ahh I know right?! So many amazing pieces at Ever Ours! xx
DeleteI love these looks! Especially the first one x
ReplyDeleteThank you Lydia! <3
DeleteA dipped hem really isn't my style, but I'm definitely swooning for those flatforms and scalloped Monki shorts! XO.
ReplyDeleteI adore the shorts, I tried the last size on though and they were too big! Hoping that Monki have some Smalls in when I next visit (:
DeleteI love the polka dot skirt, I haven't tried a dipped hem skirt yet. I really want those black sandals from River Island.. they'd go with so many outfits!

It's gorgeous, isn't it? I think a little Dahlia splurge is in order soon (:
DeleteI just adore your blog so much, definitely one of my favourites! I love the first look, for some reason I'd always jumped straight to dipped hems = dresses but I love the idea of a dipped hem top and the dresses make me look a little short. Great looks :) x
ReplyDeleteAww thank you so much Victoria, that means so much (: I think that's a common misconception too! I adore dipped hem tops, and there is so much variety on the High Street atm! xx
DeleteI love the dipped hem dresses at Glamorous, there are so many lovely ones! I'm currently looking for THE perfect dipped hem dress for my graduation ball :) x
ReplyDeleteThey're so nice! Awh that'll be so lovely for grad ball! Mine isn't until November, and I'm pretty sure that whatever I wear, I'll freeze :P
DeleteThe third look seems so effortless and comfy with the use of such a light and breezy skirt. My favourite way to wear a dipped hem is definitely on a skirt, I find that a dipped hem on a top isn't flattering whatsoever unless you have skinny legs haha.
ReplyDeleteMm it's so breezy and summery! Makes me think of the British seaside in the 60's or so! xx
DeleteI've just bought the necklace from the first look!
ReplyDeleteIt's so pretty, isn't it?!
DeleteI love dipped hems but i do always feel like i have the front of my skirt/dress tucked into my knickers! xo
ReplyDeleteHahahah Lauren, this is why I loves ya! <3 I felt the same when I tried my dress on, I kept going to pull my 'skirt' down!
DeleteOh I love dipped hems, I think they're so elegant. The only issue I have is that although from the front they cut my legs off in a good place, often from the back they make me look super super short... now I understand I am super short... but not super super short :P I do love them though, I wear them to work a lot they make me feel all girlie :) x
ReplyDeleteMm I think so too (: My Boohoo one fits me perfectly, I literally love it! Maybe try a midi dipped hem instead sweet? xx
Deletelove everything, all the outfits are so beautiful :D
ReplyDeletelovely choices!

Great post! I bought a dress with a dipped hem and although it looked lovely from the side, I just looked silly in it overall! Wish I could pull this off! So i'm un-willingly taking it to the tailors to get it altered :(

ReplyDeleteThe first outfit is my favourite!

I love the third outfit, the skirt is gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteAs a short, curvy girl, dip hems are a godsend!! The tops hide my bum, and skirts make me look taller, so a winner all round!!
