Had the standard first day back today, which in translation was headache central, some useful snippets of info and a lot of waiting around. I honestly can't believe I'm in my final semester of education - ever! Today also marks the start of the Year of the Dragon! Not doing much by way of celebration, just a quiet night in of attempting to cook some Chinese food and getting on with things.

(Lace and faux leather tunic, Ever Ours;

80-denier tights, H&M;
Suedette slipper shoes, New Look;
Duffle coat, Topshop;
Illustrated cat ring, c/o Jewellery by Jaymie;
White gold heart ring, A gift;
Alexa, Mulberry;
Nails, 'Razzle Dazzle' by Deborah Lippmann.)

Had a panicked, last minute shopping session late on Thursday night, after realising I hadn't bought anything new to wear for Chinese New Year. It's tradition to wear new clothes, new shoes, etc. on the first day to bring good luck, fortune and prosperity, and when I celebrate at home, we usually keep to most of the traditions! I bought this after repeatedly going back to Ever Ours to stare at it, and I adore it: it's a gorgeous balance between prim and proper, and something a little edgier with the faux leather collar and cuffs. I never really wear lace, although I've worn it in my last two 'outfit posts' now! I think the dress has such a sweet 60's x 90's feel!

In other, slightly less materialistic news, I've made it to the shortlist of the Marie Claire Blog Awards! I'm still in disbelief, but I'm so, so grateful to anyone who has read my blog and decided to vote for me - thank you times a million. I'll be off to the Awards Show next Tuesday to watch them announce the winners, which will make a nice change from mooching about in my pyjamas before Uni! Huge congrats to the other bloggers shortlisted too!

Right, there's a chicken stirfry waiting to be cooked downstairs, and things to be sorting out for Uni, so I'm going to start our Chinese New Year festivities, student style! 恭喜發財, 新年進步 and all that jazz ;)

  1. Happy Happy CNY Michelle, hope it's a good day/evening despite being away from family. You look lovely in the dress, loving that the collar and cuffs are leather against the lace, to bring it out of being so feminine.

    Good Luck for the final semester, I'm quite sure that you'll do brilliantly, but remember that perspective is key. When it all feels like too much, remember there's a life after uni, and that you'll get there, however stressed you are in that moment.

    Your dress suits your Mulberry perfectly, I love this look.

  29. It's quite short on me too, had many 'nearly-flashing-people' incidents in Uni and I'm only a teeny 5"1, so it definitely is more of a tunic than dress (: The heart print shirt is adorable too, I've had it in my basket for a while but can't really justify it, aaand in keeping with my new wardrobe system, I'd have to throw something out to buy it! xx

  30. Thanks Tamsin! Haha oh we nearly opted for a takeaway, but made chilli chicken with honey and soy sauce, pak choi and rice from scratch instead! Even made a chicken and sweetcorn soup from scratch! Aw thank you lovely, I'm so grateful, can't quite believe it! xx

  39. Aw thank you Holly! Haha you should, it represents a new beginning and brings you good fortune after all ;) It's pretty much a 60's babydoll shift shape which is great for a petite or boyish frame, I think it'd be difficult to pull off with an hourglass shape! Thanks lovely, I blame Dove Nourishing Oil conditioner for that (: xx

  40. Yay Happy new year :) I always find it so fun on Chinese new year all the children were so interested. And we had to find out what animal they year they were born matched to and what that meant! And talking about all the traditions!
