daisybutter - UK Style Blog: week in photos, photo diary, student life, food blog, southampton

The evening sky in Southampton · Clear blue skies on the walk home from town · My first Graze box arrived! · Shooting photos for an outfit post in the garden - very, very cold! · Made a pesto pasta on Saturday night with cherry tomatoes, chicken and red onion · New purchases from the week · Found one of my favourite photos from a second year photography project, featuring the lovely Kez as Twiggy! · King prawn thai noodles · Me, having a cheeky pose instead of shooting outfit photos... · Dissertation doom · Taking photos for future beauty reviews · Creme Egg Splats, my new love in life.

Been the most surreal and hectic week by some lucky twist of fate! One of my 2012 goals was to get myself on track in the internship 'game', so I spent that first week of the month meticulously writing cover letter upon cover letter and crossing my fingers. Well this week I've secured two placements, one of which is a long-term one starting as I graduate from Uni! I've been dropping hints about it all week but didn't want to confirm until I'd had my interview, which was yesterday morning. I'm so happy that my cover letter roulette finally paid off, and I'm even starting to get excited to graduate! (Although putting my digital portfolio together? Not remotely fun. Anyone have any ideas to replace Issuu on Wordpress?!)

This week saw me indulge in too much chocolate and too many magazines - what's new?! I think my sudden obsession with blogs over the latter half of last year meant that my love for print magazines ebbed down to non-existent, but I'm making a conscious effort to read a magazine or three again each month. This month's favourite reads have been the redesigned Company and my old favourite, InStyle. Seriously lusting after this little See by Chloe number!

Received the loveliest email from a fellow fashion journo undergrad this weekend: Libby studies at the London College of Fashion, and recently produced a documentary exploring the issues around breast cancer and womens' changing perception of the fashion industry. I found it really interesting and rather moving, as it highlights an issue that is so centric to a lot of people. You can watch it here, if you're interested! As Libby pointed out, it's always interesting to see a varied, conscientous side to the fashion industry.

Anyway! I'd better get moving, my floordrobe won't tidy itself and I'd quite like to kickstart Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon with an organised wardrobe! Bought the loveliest little dress to wear tomorrow for the whole 'new clothes for the new year' tradition ;) My housemates and I are planning to spend the evening devouring the majority of Dominos' pizza menu tonight too! Busy busy(!)

  10. Oh my gosh, congrats on your long term internship! It sounds like you worked crazy hard to get it.
Those Creme egg splats - I generally don't like the eggs themselves because the filling is too much, but I think I could get into the splats.
    Happy Chinese New Year!

  11. Congrats on the internship, it is fantastic news and you really deserve it!

Also, I saw those Creme Egg splats the other day, I think once I pick up a bag I'm going to fall even more in love with them than I am with the caramel buttons!

  12. Good luck for the internship! I saw them cream egg splats in Tesco the other day and was very tempted to pick them up! If you 'recommend' them then I shall most definitely be making another trip down there! ;-) Happy chinese new year too!

  25. ooh splats - I'd never heard of those either. And you will have to say if the graze boxes are any good. There's a voucher for a free one in Glamour at the mo so I was thinking of giving it a go. Could use something healthy to nibble on at work. Congrats on your internships :) xx

  27. They're definitely worth the price, you can choose what comes in your box, so if there's something you particularly don't want, you can opt out of that snack (: Thanks lovely! xx

  28. It was really hard to find, I tried three different places before I finally got my hands on it (:

Your neighborhood looks so lovely and rustic. I would love to live there; it looks calming. I spy Clinique!

  30. Happy chinese new year, my lovely girly! Hope you have a good day with Uni friends. I wish my family celebrated in full chinese style - mum used to buy the fruit/candy wheel but we're talking years ago now. Maybe about 20 years ago at least! I don't even new PJ's this year. Will have to panic-buy at primark tomorrow!! Did you get my tweet earlier about viewbook? If not, it was just basically to let you know that viewbook is a good portfolio hosting site. It's very sleek and professional looking. Let me know what you think of it. xxxxx

  35. Thank you Sarah, you too! I'm going to have a shopping sesh tomorrow too (: If it brings good luck...! I did actually, but my Internet died and wouldn't let me look at it, going to have a look now! Hope you have a lovely day tomorrow, whatever you end up doing by way of celebration! xxxx

  36. Thank you! Usually when I'm home, we celebrate by buying new clothes and having new haircuts before the day, bathing with clementines, eating boiled eggs in the morning for lunch, being given red packets if we're unmarried, and huge family meals (: So gutted that I'm missing out this year, but third year/final semester beckons! xx

  37. Haha pop it on your list for next week's shop ;) Thanks Lottie! xx

  38. It's been really weird, such a whirlwind, all I wanted from my final week of the break was to have a lot of coffee and watch some films in bed :P Thank you Laura! xx

Oooh well done on sorting out some internships, I know it can be so hard to get your foot in the door so it's great you stood out. I'm loving the new Company too, it's quite reasonably priced so I'll probably be buying it again, but I'll always prefer the honesty and immediacy of blogs. Happy Chinese New Year!
