the story of us

Leggings, New Look;
Waffle-esque knit black long cardigan, Topshop;
Long swing owl necklace, Blablabla Shop;
Large gold filigree ring, Miss Selfridge;
Nails, Models Own 'Grace Green'.)
Simply couldn't be bothered to stand up and take the standard outfit photos today, but hey, me and a camera and a tripod and my floor = these. Which pretty much did the job to be honest. I've had this top for absolutely ages, probably over a year or so now, and the loose draping fit of it is nothing short of my idea of perfection. (I do now realise that 'proper' outfit photos would come in handy to demonstrate this fit...!) I wear it with lots of other things and often layer things over it, but opted for a simple vest and leggings look today. I am exhausted okay, and only needed to pop out and see my Granny to help with her gardening. Or so I thought, ended up bumping into the ex-boyfriend in the town centre, but that's a story I'll save for another time. Also popped this cardigan over everything, it is freakishly cold at home at the moment, and this waffle-esque stitch one has been my firm favourite for over three years.
Anyway ladies, I'm going to settle down with my Empire magazine - I never buy it, but this one is full of Harry Potter goodness - and a Michael McIntyre DVD. I'm also armed with a share pack of Aero Bubbles and Milky Way Magic Stars, with no intention of actually 'sharing'. Hope you're all having splendid weekends, I'll be back tomorrow with a Week in Photos at last!
PS. Splendid is such a strange word. Totes reminds me of those Little Miss books.

Afternoon ladies! Hope you're all well. I've been so MIA from my blog and the Internet in general at the moment, been keeping very busy and bringing the pennies in. I'm "enjoying" a rare afternoon off though, before working a killer shift until close tonight. I say enjoying with inverted commas because I've been running around the house, tidying my embarassing mess of a bedroom, doing the housework and putting together my brother's surprise for his girlfriend. It's their anniversary today: aw!
(Black top with chiffon bow, Clotheshow Live;
Chambray buttondown skirt, H&M;
Crochet kimono jacket, Topshop;
Golden Snitch necklace, Wallpaper Rose.)
I spent the day in London with my friend Jesse yesterday. I stupidly forgot my memory card - don't you hate when that happens?! - so I can't share photos of my day with you, like I had planned. I'm gutted because there were so many great photo opportunities, especially in the Great Downpour (and Thunder & Lightning) of London '11 haha. We walked everywhere because there seemed to be huge packs of young student tourists crowding every Tube station. Didn't buy too much to be honest, just some sweet playsuits, this skirt, a new MAC lipstick in 'Modesty' that I'd been eyeing up and lots of good food and drink.
As I mentioned earlier, I picked this skirt up in H&M yesterday. I hadn't been a huge fan of these buttondown skirts when they came out for SS11, but after writing my Ways to Wear feature about them a few weeks back, and seeing this perfect Chambray material version, I wanted to pick one up for myself. Paired it with this cute black vest that I bought two or three years ago but never wear: it's not "my style" anymore, but I knew it'd look lovely tucked into this! Of course I've thrown on my crochet kimono jacket, so cosy and easy to wear on a lazy day. I saw a pair of crochet shorts in H&M that I was dying to buy but alas, they did not have my size in-store.
Right, I'd better get back to some epic daytime TV watching, the laundry and my brother's surprise(!) Must respond to emails today as well, if you have recently emailed me, I'm going to get back to you later, my bloody Blackberry is on the blink and won't let me read texts or emails, and I'm trying to save the last bar of battery (both of my chargers are broken too!) for emergencies. Have a lovely weekend! ♥

current skincare routine
Thursday, 26 May 2011
While I am no beauty expert or well versed in any sense of the beauty industry, one thing that I can ascertain is that I blimmin' well love my skincare products and regime. Most of my 'good skin' is down to good genes and good habits from an early age. My Mum had me on the 5-a-day and lots of water from the earliest age! As a result, I've fallen into the habit of eating lots of fruit and veg, and other than on a night out, I only drink water, orange juice with the bits in, Yakult or a sneaky coffee at home.
I receive quite a lot of comments, emails, messages, etc. complimenting me on my skin (thanks guys, you're too nice to me!) so I thought I'd follow up with a concise post about how I enhance my skin and 'maintain' it, I suppose! Also, I apologise in advance that I don't really have much variety in terms of brands, this is just what I've used since the age of about 12, give or take a few products!

Daily Cleanser:
I have two main cleansers that I'd say I use on a daily basis. Depending on how I feel my skin is looking/feeling, I'll use different ones. The first is my Boots' Tea Tree and Witch Hazel foaming facewash, which is nice and affordable, and is my go-to when my face feels hot and puffy(?), or when I just feel that I might have a dreaded spot on the way. It is light, refreshing and genuinely works overnight, it retails at £3.99 in Boots in the UK, and is more often than not on offer, I'd really recommend!
I also use Lancome Foaming Gel Eclat, and have been doing so for about two or three years now. I used to use Lancome's LCM gel cleanser, up until the age of 16, when they discontinued it, and this was hailed as the 'next best' product. It can be a little drying, but I work it in the skin with some water and circular motions. It cleanses so well, and leaves my skin feeling lovely and soft!
Exfoliator:
I haven't found a really good, dedicated exfoliator yet. I quite want to try a St. Ives one, but if you have any recommendations, send them my way! I currently use Laneige Multi-Cleanser two or three times a week after cleansing my face. It's supposed to be a generic cleanser, but the micro beads are super exfoliating, and I find it's slightly too harsh on my skin every day, maybe I'm just too careful. Never get Laneige MC in your eyes. It burns like crazy!
Toner:
Of all the toners I have sampled (most counters are more than happy to give you 10ML samples!), I just can't stop going back to the Boots Botanics rosewater toner. So refreshing, clarifying and perfectly light-scented, although of course it isn't a perfume, rosewater naturally smells gorgeous. Toner removes any last trace of make-up and dirt, rehydrates the skin and preps for moisturiser.
Moisturiser:
Started using a new moisturiser about a week or two ago after I ran out of my HG one (Lancome Hydrazen Neurocalm Soothing cream) and decided I wanted to switch to a gel formula. I've pretty much used Lancome creams since I was 13, and have never had a problem with them, but recently found that it was just sitting on top of my skin instead of moisturising it. The Clinique Dramatically Different range has had mixed reviews in the press, some say it is too heavy, which I found in the lotion, but the gel version, aimed at oily skin, is so perfect for me. I have Normal/Dry skin, so am trying to work out why this is haha, but it just shows that these full sets aren't always the best option, mixing and matching worked a lot better for me.
Eye Cream:
I only started using eye cream about two years ago, at the age of 18. Many write it off as something for older women but it's best to start as soon as possible with caring for the delicate skin surrounding your eyes. I use eye cream nightly at the moment and switch between Boots Botanics Organic Moisturising eye cream (£6.12 for 15ML) and the Lancome Hydrazen Neurocalm Eye Contour cream. My favourite is the Lancome of course, but I have no qualms with the Botanics one, and find it works just as well. I'm really interested in trying the Soap & Glory Supereyes Supereyes eye gel soon though! Such a skincare junkie!
... and the rest!
I was recently sent a sample of the new Sudocrem Tube by Hayden. Widely regarded as 'that nappy rash stuff', I was quite skeptical of its' use on me, so had a little Google session to find that it works wonders on scarring, spots, and dry/sensitive skin. My arms suffer from weird, dry patches and I had some discolouration from ezcema from my younger years (haha!) so upon arrival of the sample and on the advice of my Mama, I applied a layer of Sudocrem on my dry patches etc. overnight, and awaited results. A week and a bit later, I have genuinely noticed a different. It hydrates my skin and evens out the colouring, and one of my friends uses it as a facemask hahaha, it's nothing short of a miracle product to her ;)
Once or twice a week, I also like to use facemasks. Real ones, not nappy rash versions. My favourite is Biore and My Beauty Diary sheetmasks (mine are currently on order and I've run out!), which are so refreshing. I like to choose whitening masks, a clear complexion suits me more than a tan. If I've visited a Lush store recently, more often than not I'll have a Catastrophe Cosmetic in the fridge. Their fresh facemasks are made with natural fruits and ingredients, and there is a different one for each skin type. I use CC when my skin feels hot or on the verge of a breakout, and it just calms and soothes my skin so well. I haven't had a spot in about 10 months and I think I owe it all to this badboy!
I also use a range of bodycare products regularly. There is nothing more relaxing to me than getting in a bath with a coffee (yes, really!) and a book! May as well make the most of your time in there! I open a window to refresh the room as well, it can get so stuffy when products get involved. I love Imperial Leather bathcreams, but turn to Lush bubble bars if I want a lot of bubbles.
Exfoliator:
With the persuasion of all you lovely ladies on Twitter who are rapidly bankrupting me, I picked up Soap & Glory's 'The Breakfast Scrub' a few weeks ago. It smells gorgeous, but can be quite sickly at times. I still can't decide if it's worth the £9+ that I paid for it, but there is a cheaper version on ASOS, or so I've heard. It is quite a gentle scrub, leaving my skin baby soft and without that greasy touch that I found from other S&G exfoliators.
Moisturiser:
Again, this is something I only introduced to my life about two years ago. I currently have two go-to body moisturisers. The Body Shop's Cocoa Butter body butter (what a mouthful!) is what I use on the days that I feel my skin is particularly dry. I tend to use this after baths actually, I run super-hot baths which mean my skin needs a little more hydration, and the thick formulation of this is perfect for such purposes.
Twice daily and after showers, Mama and I are using Jergens Naturals Organic Aloe Soothing moisturiser. Rosie at Jergens provided me with this over the weekend, and we decided to trial it for its' supposed soothing and refreshing qualities as we've both been working horrific shifts since Monday. While it is really refreshing and moisturising, I found the cream quite runny, and with a bottle packaging, things got quite messy! Other than this, I'd totally recommend Jergens' Aloe range. It is cruelty-free, and as with all Jergens' products, made with plant extracts. Retailing at about £5, it is super affordable, and I'm really interested in trying another of their body moisturisers now. My Mama would also like to add (she's watching me write this!) that their hand lotions are 'amazing', haha.
I think that just about wraps up my skincare routine post! I never expected it to be so long, and almost gave up halfway, thinking of replacing the words with a simple description of the products, but what use is that to you or me? Huge kudos if you got this far, I hope this has helped some of you, and answered your questions. I like to use a mix of high street and high end products, I just find this is the best routine for me at the moment. Also as a little disclaimer, what works for me might not necessarily work for you, I have normal to dry skin which is also a little sensitive. Two of the above products were sent to me for review but as always, my opinions are honest.
Right ladies, I'm off for a day in London with Jesse! Shall take lots of photos and probably Tweet for you, so excited to spend the day with one of my best friends! What are your skincare routines, ladies? I'd love to read about yours, and if you have any face exfoliator recommendations, please let me know in the comments!

currently coveting: wedges
Tuesday, 24 May 2011
Afternoon my beauties! Kickstarting the week (a little late, but better late than never!) with a little covet list for you. I think these types of posts are nice little ways to show my current taste and style, as well as a perfect way to get outside opinions on what I could splurge on next. I'm guessing you all know that I'm planning on buying a Nikon D3000 or D3100 - still undecided as ever - this Summer. While I now have enough saved up for my new baby(!!!) thanks to working meticulously almost every day until midnight, I think I can put off that huge purchase and treat myself to a sweet new pair of wedges? Right?
Hannah, from Away with the Fairies, Tweeted about the first two pairs at the weekend, and I immediately saved the link to my favourites. At £35.99, I suppose they're not too overpriced, but I'm a tiny bit unsure about the quality at Missguided, having never shopped there before. Currently very tempted to overlook this and purchase a pair: the big question is, black or cream?
I'm quite a big fan of these rust/coral coloured Hailey wedges too. I'd probably pair them with any outfit on a night out, seeing as I pretty much live in black when out! Not sure how on-trend the colour would remain, however, so I'm quite skeptical. Also added a few pairs of summery wedges into the mix. I'd quite like #6, the orange printed sandals from River Island, which have a lovely 50's pin-up feel to them, and I do "need" a new pair of summer shoes!
In homage to my beautiful girl Alana, who writes XOXO AVS, I had to have a peek at the Kurt Geiger store. Mistake and a half! How beautiful are the Gilby wedges?! Although I'd imagine they'd be impossible to walk in, I think they'd look perfect with the sheer twist maxi skirt I featured in Look Two of this W2W feature. Gah, why must shoes be so expensive?
What is the consensus on wedges on here then? Shall I buy the black or cream Mariette wedges? Or shall I save my money and spend it elsewhere?
the summer of '11
Thursday, 19 May 2011
poring over the latest addition to my book collection (pictured), crochet, bottled coke, baby pink nail varnish, tousled wavy hair, little shorts and a jersey top, sundresses, french plaits a la lauren conrad, postcard writing, visiting the seaside, a warm summer breeze, pitchers of cloudy lemonade, sweet potato chips, chanel cruise rtw collection, wearing someone else's hoody, starbucks frappuchinos with extra cream, late summer evening bbqs, hopelessly rewatching entire seasons of gossip girl, toasted waffles for breakfast, day trips to london with the girls, moving in with ebony, sitting by the lakes for hours, kimono jackets, long necklaces, coral nail varnish, strawberries and cream, broderie anglaise trim shorts, moccasins, ice-cream out of the tub.
Ways to Wear #11: the white t-shirt
Wednesday, 18 May 2011
Happy Wednesday girls! Happy hour begins... right now, with another Ways to Wear edition! I decided to use this week to bring the W2W series back to its' roots, with garments you're extremely likely to have lurking in your wardrobe already, but are reluctant to rewear because it's been overworn already. I'll still be taking any specific requests that readers want featured, please just drop me an email or Formspring question, or even a simple Tweet, and I'll add it in my new blogging schedule. (NB. Blogging schedule = Post-it note hastily stuck on my laptop!)
This week's featured item is the staple of all staples in any wardrobe, a basic white T-shirt. For the purposes of the Look collages below, I am using the Topshop tee, which retails at £15. Of course, you can buy these from absolutely anywhere, although I'm 99.9% sure that you already have one. I'd also like to mention quickly, that white T-shirts absolutely require a nude T-shirt bra, and not white. Trust me here guys, a clearly visible bra is not a good look with T-shirts. My personal preference with T-shirts, as with all of my clothes, is a looser, slouchy fit, I just find they sit well on me and make me look curvier than I am - win!
Look One is a laidback chic look. It is very much inspired by the gorgeous Sarah at Burn the Blonde, who always inspires me to get back in my jeans for a girly, fresh and simple look. I'm really into crochet at the moment, and am in love with these little fringed waistcoats. The one in this look is from H&M, and retails at £29.99, which seems a bit hefty for H&M to be honest. For the more money-conscious (ahem, me), there is a cheaper version, which is pretty much exactly the same, from New Look, for half the price! I've linked it above as #2. Although many of you won't want to wear wedges on an everyday basis, this pair - also from H&M - are quite neutral and will go with almost any outfit. Adding some height will dress the look up a little, and will improve your posture, making you appear more confident.
I think I styled Look Two with an idea of meadows, English summer whimsicality and a Lula-esque feel. Guess who's been listening far too much in editorial styling lectures again? ;) I saw this Daisy Chain dungaree playsuit on the Yayer website yesterday and knew it was perfect. It can actually be worn without the white T-shirt, but for the purposes of this post, and to make the item a little more wearable and attainable, I've place the top underneath. This look is all about the feminine flourishes and pastel colours: floral headbands are very 'in' again *cringe* and look so sweet with wavy, undone, tousled hair. Think bedhead hair! I like these moccassin boots, they're something a little different and would be SO comfy! I also added a pair of adorable frill Tabio socks to tie in the colours. No jewellery with this look, it would be a bit too much!
Look Three this week is my favourite by far. I think I might treat myself to an item or two from this look! Of course the T-shirt would be tucked into the belted high waisted shorts. I think tucking a T-shirt into a skirt or shorts really dresses a look up. I'm absolutely in love with this kimono jacket from ASOS, the fluted sleeve detail and sheer chiffon is so gorgeous, I'd really recommend clicking the link (#1 above) and watching the video version, it sits so well and has so much movement! Like in Saturday's outfit, I've added a simple necklace to coordinate against the lines of the jacket, this should elongate the body, and flatter your body. Pop two simple bracelets on the same wrist (hello ASOS £6 bargains!) and you're good to go, a perfect outfit with a little nod to the Oriental trend for day or night dependant on your choice/preference of footwear!
I hope you enjoyed this week's installment, and that it has inspired you to wear your white T-shirts in new ways. It's so easy to fall into a pattern and routine with basics, but it's also so easy to wear in hundreds of ways! Also, if you liked last week's installment and those Zara ethic sandals, I've found a very similar pair at New Look right here ladies, so go crazy ladies, the weekend is near and your feet deserve a pretty new home to go out in!

Dear life, please make everything easier, working at a restaurant until all hours in just not my style ;) Love, Michelle xoxo
In stark comparison to last week where I managed to post almost every day, this week is probably going to be a little lacking, so apologies in advance! I'm going to write my Ways to Wear in advance for you, I know people enjoy those posts, but I think I'm working most evenings until 11pm, so expect me to me a little MIA for the next few weeks.
(Zebra studded deep arm drop top, Realitee @ Topshop;
Black bandeau top, Marks and Spencer;
Black high waisted shorts, River Island;
Heart print tights, Primark;
Necklace, Swarovski;
Gold leaf ring, Primark.)
I'm wearing all of my comfort items and old favourites today. I'm working the evening shift tonight at 5pm, so won't be leaving the house, but I didn't want to slob around in my day pyjamas once again! I'm in love with this top, a whole three years after I first bought it. The fit is so lovely and draped, the material is soft, and the petrol/slate/steel blue colour is one of my favourites. The blue tones also look lovely with camel. I always feel a bit Audrina Patridge when I wear this too, so paired with a black, high-waisted short. The bandeau and deep arm hole look is something I want to wear a lot more the summer, I think it's understatedly chic and so underrated!
I downloaded the 30-Day Shred yesterday and planned on starting it today, but I don't want to risk feeling awful tonight! Excuses excuses ;) I'm definitely going to start in on Friday though, I don't think I'm at work on Friday, or over the weekend for a change, so I'm more likely to be able to have a go at it! I might even step things up and use my wrist/ankle velcro-strap-on weights that I used to wear at dance classes.
Also indulged in a music download sesh last night. Has anyone else heard B2ST's new album, Fiction or Fact yet? I'm in love with Fiction and the orchestra version of it, On Rainy Days and Back to You. Just need more people to squee about it with! Ooh, and I'm currently watching the Gossip Girl season 4 finale, so many good moments. Chuck Bass, marry me please.

Snapping away on Tuesday when I was housebound and making crafty bits • Revisited my childhood days with some Season 1 Pokemon (: • Got my hair chopped on Wednesday! Neater, shorter, more shape. This photo makes me look rather leggy! I wish! • Chocolate desserts from Marks and Sparks • Considered wearing this yesterday but it was so uncomfortable • Dim Sum lunch on Thursday with my Mama and Granny • Rediscovered my love for Sleek's Rose Gold shimmer blush, worn with a matte brown smokey eye, courtesy of Emma's handy tutorial - go watch it! • Received a lovely note and gift from Chloe, on adorable stationery • I had a 'The Hills' marathon last night before Eurovision, Lauren and her interning escapades never fail to entertain • My sister's birthday cards all hung up on display! • Jewellery box • Me today! Wearing that H&M top once again.
Posts I Have Loved: Lyzi's outfit and impressive cooking skills, The beautiful Milly's striped vintage maxi skirt outfit really inspired me, Some really meaningful words about change on A Rosie Outlook, Another sweet outfit on Courtney's blog that has made me need a denim shirt/white skirt, Rumi outdoing us all with a perfect babydoll dress - gah I want to be her, I totally want to make this DIY chalkboard necklace from Oh Hello Friend!, and not forgetting my very own Bee, with a lovely *ahem!* open letter to an unhappy person.

And to think I almost had an outfit post-less week on here...! I've quite enjoyed taking some time away from snapping photos of myself, I usually feel so awkward and poser-irific when I take my outfit photos, and the camera I'm using at the moment means the process takes twice as long as usual. I've had a think, a budgeting session and a sit down though, and if my shifts don't change, I should be able to buy my new camera in 4-5 weeks time! Squee!
(Black flounce layer top, Primark;
Denim cut-off shorts, George at Asda and cut up with handy kitchen scissors!
Crochet kimono, Topshop;
Polka dot sheer tights, Primark;
Necklace, Vintage;
Rings, H&M and Blablabla.)
Nothing spectacular to show again, I can't get enough of this crochet cardigan/jacket, if you hadn't already guessed. I feel so Rumi Neely/fashiontoast when I wear it! It adds a beautiful, laidback, Summery, bohemian feel to any outfit, which I surprisingly really like at the moment. I spied this flounce layered top in my wardrobe this morning and really wanted to wear it! I think it'd look lovely with some camel/rust colour jeans or tapered trousers, but I still haven't got round to buying any. I threw on this extremely long pearl chain necklace to break up the black in my outfit, and I think it works well with the long line of the front of my cardigan?
My Mama and I are currently in the process of redesigning our living room (and dining room, hallways, etc.). It's been a long time coming, and seeing as in September, my brother will also be off to University, it makes sense to start revamping everything so she can have pals round, and we can enjoy a new scene when we come home for weekends. I've been buying interior magazines by the bucketload, and can't stop adding to my list of things to look into for my bedroom hahaha. It's all so exciting!
In other news, this week I finally paid off the deposit for my new house-share! If you didn't already know, I am moving into a little house with one of my best friends, and another friend from Uni in September. I'm excited for constant girly kickbacks, laughs and cooking/baking experiments! Aaand it means another room to start decorating, which I have already started work on!

reflective styling portfolio cjo501

Thought I'd share the final layout, images and styling from my Reflective Styling Portfolio for one of my units last semester. I posted a snippet on last week's Week in Photos and a lot of you wanted to see it in more detail, and I'm hardly ever one to disappoint ;) My deadline was on Wednesday 11th May, but of course, I handed mine in last week so I could come home earlier for the Summer! Now that our deadline has been and gone, I think I'm 'safe' to share the final product with you.
The brief required me to prepare a portfolio of 10 written and visual tasks, looking at different aspects of styling for magazines, as well as editorial and commercial styling. I think it was by far my favourite unit of second year! I produced this fashion story as my final task, pitching the piece to InStyle magazine (UK), and then forecasting and styling for the Oriental trend. The trend actually happened to pop up on the Topshop homepage this week, which I'm secretly really proud of!
Let me know what you think in the comments below. Big thanks to my friend Kerry for modelling for me as well!

Ways to Wear #10: (sleeveless) denim jackets
Wednesday, 11 May 2011
From my calculations, it has been a whopping three weeks since my last Ways to Wear installment! I guess I've just been busy with all sorts of other things, primarily Uni work, which you'll be getting a sneak preview of in either tomorrow or Friday's post, and just easing away from posting every single day. The pressure is now on to deliver a worth-the-wait W2W post!
This week's featured Ways to Wear item is the sleeveless denim jacket. It's all feeling a tad samey same on here, considering my last featured item was the denim A-line skirt! Oh well, I'm a huge fan of these at the moment and am on the cusp of cutting up the sleeves of my own beloved cropped denim jacket. As with any item I like to use on here, there are some cheaper options, some more expensive options, and lots in other colours, fits and prints. For those a little arm-conscious, a three-quarter length sleeve would also work just as well!
Before you all make a sharp exit at the thought and sight of double denim, hear me out. A firm trend last Summer, and the one before that, double denim is the Marmite of fashion. Although I've always had it down in my metaphorical Fashion Hate list, I personally have begun to warm to the trend. Pair this pair of dark indigo/purple broderie anglaise trim shorts with a bleach wash denim jacket, and inject some texture with this lace back tee. The key to working double denim is to break up that tough texture with other garments, and a cropped denim jacket is perfect for this. I added a hot pink lip and 50's-esque headwrap, alluding to a modern pin-up look.
Now Look Two is by far my favourite this week! I had originally been visualising the sleeveless denim jacket with a 'perfect' maxi dress or jersey jumpsuit, but came across this maxi skirt while perusing the Topshop website. The skirt is the epitome of laidback Summer chic, and would be a great addition to any wardrobe! I think the strapping detailed cami would look sweet tucked in or left loose, either way, it creates a nice contrast to the lengthy material of the skirt. As the skirt is so long and perfectly simple, I wanted to add a pair of mottled print sunglasses (kudos on your sunglasses collection this season, New Look, you've outdone yourself and I'm in love!) and these beautiful ethnic detailed sandals. Perfect hippie chic, and I can see the likes of Gem, Morven and Sara in this look!
I don't want to add to the blogger/journo cliche and say that Look Three is a festival look. I'd imagine this look being perfectly at home either on a shopping date, the beach, a coffee shop haunt or a music fest though! Thought I'd include this because I'm positive that about 99% of the blogosphere now owns this playsuit from H&M (whether plain black, leopard print or patterned), deeming this a perfect Ways to Wear look if you don't want to splurge! Teamed with some long necklaces from my beloved Miss Selfridge to break up the block colour, and with another pair of moccasin inspired sandals.
Well that's me done for another week in the Ways to Wear camp! I've missed putting these together, and am currently feeling very inspired in my blogging! I think that's mainly down to having completed Uni work, and having no other distraction other than TV and food to block my way. I have a few garments in mind for next week's installment, so stay tuned for that. I'll be back soon with either an outfit post or a peek into my fashion editorial, depending on how lazy I'm feeling/if I'm called into work or not!

Been enjoying a lazy day of little DIY makes (paper bunting and customised pillowcases) today. I used Gem's handy Tuesday Tips tutorial for my bunting, and used a mixture of Topshop carrier bag paper, old jewellery order packaging, Vogue tearsheets and Luella tissue paper. I didn't see much point in posting an outfit because I'm not going anywhere special, I'm lounging around in jeans and a T-shirt, and my adorable new ring from Chloe.
I've been getting in touch with my younger self today too, and indulged in some Season 1 Pokemon episodes, armed with my scissors and scrap paper! I've got my fingers crossed for some positive replies to a few emails I've sent today as well. Bonus snap of our customised eggs too, I obviously had an egg on toast for lunch ;) Oh it's good to live in our household!
(Heart print T-shirt, Topshop from a few seasons ago;
Jeans, Miss Selfridge from even more seasons ago;
Heart double-finger ring, via the beautiful and inspiring Chloe;
China doll necklace, Accessorize.)
In case you hadn't already checked, I've updated my recommended blog in the sidebar, which features the gorgeous Lyzi! I'll be back tomorrow with a sparkly new Ways to Wear post for you to pore over! I'm getting my hair cut at long last tomorrow afternoon, I'm excited and nervous at the same time, even though I'm not getting anything spectacular done. Also, is anyone still interested in a (condensed format) room tour post?
PS. Isn't my brother a doll for buying me a huge bar of the Dairy Milk truffle chocolate bar?!

Boutique Spotlight: Belle Vintage
Monday, 9 May 2011
Today I am focusing on another of my favourite online boutiques. I'm definitely one of those people who prefers to have a leisurely browse at home from the comfort of my duvet (I know, I take laziness to the next level!) rather than devote hours to trawling the stores. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a day spent at the shops as much as the next, but as Ella at Belle Vintage demonstrates, having an online store makes it much easier to pick and choose between your favourite items.
Belle Vintage is run by the lovely Ella, who I've actually known for a few years through college. What I love the most about Belle Vintage is that Ella's passion and love for secondhand clothing completely shines through in everything that she does, whether on her website, blog or Twitter, and she emphasises a high turnover with low-profit, keeping prices low and perfect for us students! Ella also recently reached the finals of a business competition at Uni, winning a grant to spend on her business venture to further herself.
As much as I adore the High Street, I am always enthralled by Belle Vintage's huge collection of vintage clothing. Ella has amazing taste and a real eye for pieces that will come into trend, which I think is key for such a boutique. "People have told me that they don't see vintage clothing as accessible and it can be a little intimidating." says Ella. "That makes me so disappointed, but also excited to show people how easy it is to incorporate vintage into your everyday wardrobe. I find it so rewarding to hear how happy customers are with their pieces, the history of that piece will just continue to grow."
Prices are very reasonable, and for those who hate paying shipping prices like myself, P&P is even more reasonable! Additionally, Belle Vintage currently have a charity sale, so half of the proceeds made from your order will be donated to Breakthrough Breast Cancer research, keeping the morals of thrifting and secondhand clothing very true to itself. Below are some of my current favourite pieces in-store now:
Belle Vintage's mission statement: "I have always had a love for the classic nature of vintage clothing and the history and story behind every piece. Vintage clothing is also made to last, but the most appealing factor to me is how unique vintage clothing and accessories are. Many people feel confident wearing vintage as they know they are likely to be the only one with that unique piece."
Ella will be restocking daily after the University exam period, so don't forget to follow her on Twitter and her other social media accounts for the latest news and exclusive items/offers. For now, you can use 'DAISYBUTTER' at checkout for an exclusive 10% discount (: Go and get your Belle Vintage on, girls!

a (farewell) week in photos

Shop my eBay? I've begun to clear out my wardrobe and will be adding more throughout the day, motivation allowing • A sneak peek of a mini still-life shoot I produced • Some of my room packed away for the Summer, 'twas a daunting task! • Saw Thor in 3D with Jamie, really enjoyed the film and would totes recommend it! • Chocolate eclair and a sandwich for lunch • Finishing off my Styling portfolio (for a Uni assignment) with my fashion editorial • Last self-portrait taken in my room • Watched 'Beauty and the Beast' on Saturday • Bruschetta for a starter when out for a meal with the girls • A snap of the motorway en route home for the Summer! • Zabaione for dessert at Zizzi, with my family on Thursday • Rocking the socks and sandals look on Saturday
Favourite posts this week from: Rachel on how social media is affecting our lives today, One of my all-time favourite DIY tutorials from Katie, A coral themed wishlist over at Charlene's humble Internet abode, Another Bagology reading at Victoria's blog, and the quintessentially hilarious Gem rocking the shirt dress extremely well.

Just a few old favourites put together into an outfit today. Despite arriving home on Thursday afternoon, I shamefully am yet to unpack my suitcases of clothes into my wardrobe so have been making do with drips and drabs of clothing that has come out of the laundry! Everything else has been unpacked but I'm determined not to unpack just yet - hello laziness!
(Breton skinny striped top, A boutique in Hong Kong;
Skirt, Zara;
Socks, Tabio;
Tan wedge sandals, Next;
Necklace, Handmade by me;
Ring, Dainty Roses.)
Nothing compares to a casual, 'slubby' Breton striped top for the Summer in my opinion, and I definitely don't wear the look enough! Rose and Jen are two of my favourite bloggers for wearing this look, and it always inspires me to try out new combinations and textures. I also decided to pop a pair of my Tabio socks on with some wedged sandals, a la Harriet, who has the loveliest style! I always get quite nervous when doing the socks-and-sandals look, there is a fine line between it looking charming and just the right amount of geek chic, and it looking like a middle-aged male tourist. If you get what I mean. The next step: tackling the floppy hat look!
A few weeks ago, I ordered some button rings from Lisa at Dainty Roses, and they finally arrived in their boxes this week! I chose two designs (I'll share the other with you soon!), including this adorable Parisian cafe sketch. At just £3.50, I think they're perfect for value and are a really nice ring idea! Am wearing Topshop nail varnish in 'Geography Teacher' if you were wondering, such a nice, caramel nude colour for all year round.
I'm desperately in need of a proper camera and/or a blog photographer as you can see from my cheated portrait photos again! Now that I'm home for the Summer, I'll probably spend a lot of time at my parents' restaurant earning the pennies to go towards a shiny new camera, which will be a good investment for both my blog and for Uni work, as well as my personal portfolio which I am working on! By no means am I a photographer though, I mean, I know my way around camera settings, SLRs, studio set-ups, etc., but I really just want to add weight to my Styling portfolio! I also quite want to get my hands on a new conical wand - mine's slowly dying - and I really need to buy a new laptop battery, eek!
