drop everything now - taylor swift speak now world tour '11

Thursday, 31 March 2011

As promised, this is going to be a Taylor Swift infused outfit post. I went to see Taylor Swift's London concert of her Speak Now World Tour last night and she was so, so good! I always love her live performances, and this definitely topped the other two of her concerts that I'd been to. Thank you for all your lovely Tweets too, and hai to Winny, despite me being oblivious to her being there!

(Top, H&M;
Skirt, Zara;

Jacket, H&M;
Brogues, Primark.)

I'm still wearing this skirt from Zara like there's no tomorrow. The shape and fit is so flattering and girly; I really to buy another one in a similar shape, but with different detailing. This periwinkle blue blouse is one of my favourite tops, that has sadly been "permanently borrowed"/adopted by my sister. I hadn't thought about tucking it into this skirt, because I wasn't sure about the floaty fit of both pieces working together, but I surprisingly like it. I just had to add my current favourite, heart print tights, to fit in with the whole Taylor Swift theme, and popped my 'Love' ring on as well, which you probably can't see.

I've included a few photos of my evening at the O2 Arena with Natasha, because there's no way I'll get all of those photos in my Week in Photos! It's times like these that I wish I could save money for my DSLR or a better camera! Taylor was so good, if I hadn't already said that enough times, she's amazing live, and there was such a great atmosphere at the O2 Arena. As predicted, I sobbed a few fangirl tears when she opened with Sparks Fly, when she walked into the crowd and I touched her hand (!!! squeeee*~!) and when she sang Enchanted. We also managed to get VIP Access backstage, and had complimentary makeovers, and photos taken!

Finally, just wanted to say a huge thank you for the continued lovely feedback about my Ways to Wear feature yesterday. It was so overwhelming to read all of your comments while I was on the train, and it is probably my favourite feature to put together. If you ever wear a look that I've featured, please comment or email to let me know, I'd love to have a nose!

Ways to Wear #6: button through shirts

Wednesday, 30 March 2011

Happy Wednesday girls and guys! (Do any guys read my blog? Leave a comment?!) Welcome to this week's Ways to Wear post. I skipped W2W last week, for a retro Wednesday Wants, and it all felt a bit alien to me, as I have no money to spend at all! I think I'll be sticking to these for now...

This week's installment features that typical-blogger button through, sleeveless shirt. I decided to finally feature this because the item in question shows no signs of leaving the high street anytime soon, and is the perfect casual-yet-smart piece. As with most of my previous featured items, there are cheaper alternatives to this, I've seen these in New Look with many sweet variations, H&M and some other stores probably also stock similar button through shirts. I decided to use a Topshop one in my looks, simply because their website is good for photos.

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

I surprisingly like, and would consider wearing, Look One, despite it being all the things I normally hate: colour, trousers, floral AND brogues?! I guess this look tries to encapsulate a girly and tailored take on that androgynous look that I love to hate. I absolutely love this rich pink colour, and thought it would look lovely paired with a navy tapered trouser. Tuck in and button to the top, then add this adorable leather, heart punchout belt to sweeten the look up. I dithered for ages when I saw these floral panel brogues: in theory, they shouldn't work, but they do, and look oh so nice with this outfit. I really think this look balances out androgynous in a cutesy, girly way.

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Look Two is a perfect example of how the blogosphere influences and inspires my choices of clothing. The British summer is possibly the most unpredictable element known to man, therefore outfit choices in the said summer have to be made pretty wisely. I love the idea of wearing a button through shirt with a skirt, and popping a jumper over the top, a la Lily. The flirty, floaty shape of this skirt is so summery and perfect, yet unfortunately is something that may not always work in the summer. I'd pair this with a block coloured black button through: any other colour might look too fussy! Wear with a pale grey jumper and bring the collar out to tighten up the look. Keep the look necklace-free so the focus is placed on the skirt and collar bringing the look together. This is also a nice day-to-evening look, where you can swap the jumper for a silk scarf and some cute heels, pop a clutch on and meet friends for drinks!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Look Three is an ethnic inspired look, with a double layered collar and button through shirt look. I think layering collared shirts is a really unique and effortless look - I recently styled some garments with a doubled collar for my Uni portfolio. Wear the plain button through buttoned with the top and bottom buttons undone, then layer the snake print piece on top, completely unbuttoned. Pale denim is key to this look, otherwise it'll all look quite dark and boring. I chose two pieces of jewellery from the beautiful and ever so talented Ella's jewellery shop, which is so perfect for this look.

I hope you enjoyed this week's installment of Ways to Wear. I've had a few requests for upcoming posts, and I really hope I manage to do them justice! Keep sending your requests to me, either via email or Formspring, or even just Twitter, and I'll do my best to put some looks together for you. I'm off to get ready to see my beloved Taylor Swift in London tonight, I'm ridiculously excited and you can expect a fangirl-filled post tomorrow!

the scalloped edge

Monday, 28 March 2011

So, hands up if you've been an awful blogger recently... I've been so absent from Daisybutter over the past week, eep. I hadn't planned to leave it so long between posts either, I've just been exhausted all the time, and haven't had any time over the weekend to post anything substantial due to being back at work ;) I'll have to apologise again in advance, because I'm going to be at a wedding tomorrow, and probably won't get the chance to post. Guh, life without blogging is like a Starbucks frappuchino without extra whipped cream!

(Pink scallop edged dress, Topshop;
Black bow belt, from the Blair Waldorf dress - Gossip Girl for Miss Selfridge collection;
Round toe court heels, Red Herring at Debenhams.)

As I said, tomorrow is my friend's wedding day. I always find weddings a difficult occasion to dress for, particularly Chinese ones because you never know how formal the other guests will go! At the moment, I'm dithering between this dress, and my Blair Waldorf one (the dress is towards the end of the post!). I bought this pink, scallop edged dress for our college Summer Ball, two years ago, and haven't yet had the chance to wear it again. In theory, it shouldn't work, but I love love it, and scallop edge detailing is nice and on-trend at the moment! I love the simplicity of the dress too: it means I can push the boat out with restyling and accessorising it. Blaaaa, someone help me choose?!

I'm so beyond excited and glad to be home right now. Uni was getting too much, and it's so good to have a bath and my pretty bedroom to retreat to! I'm thinking of filming a bedroom tour soon, but I'm not really sure, it would definitely require me unpacking my suitcase and giving my room a tidy though! Despite me only getting home late on Saturday afternoon (getting through London on Saturday was an epic mission in itself!), I've already managed to get 12 hours of work under my belt! I'll probably be at work for a lot of the Easter break - roll on payday and a Topshop spree! ;)

Right, that is me over and out! Hope you've all had a lovely start to the week!PS. How lovely is it that, at the time of writing, it's 5:16pm and still bright?!

Wednesday Wants #22: SS11 Shoe-spiration

Wednesday, 23 March 2011

one, two, three, four, five.

I'm breaking out of the mould a bit this week to share some shoes I'm currently coveting. I couldn't decide what to feature in my Ways to Wear, and I've not had the time to give it a proper think, but hopefully my post about Yayer will tide you over with ways to style garments this week. Remember those Wednesday Wants I used to do once upon a time, before being a student crippled my pursestrings, and Frugal February made its' way into my life?

I walk past our Debenhams every single day on my walk home from Uni, and they currently have some of the most beautiful shoes in their window. I'm not much of a shoes gal in all honesty, but these floral, cork platform heels by Red Herring are so perfect for the summer! I can't imagine they'd be too practical or comfortable to wear though in all honesty, so I had a browse, and Red Herring also have a pair of floral canvas sandals/pumps, which are lovely. They have a small wedge for a bit of extra height and would look lovely with denim cut-offs and a white top for the summer!

Another sweet pair of low wedges is this pair from Topshop. I do feel that they are slightly overpriced, but I'd assume they'd be a bit comfier than a pair from Primark! Again, I love the pale colour, and they'd be perfect to throw on with any outfit in the summer. For a non-wedge version, I can't stop featuring these gorgeous sandals from Dorothy Perkins. I'm probably going to get a pair soon, the cream colour means they'll match everything in my wardrobe! I don't like to be too fussy with shoes in the summer in all honesty!

Hope you're all enjoying the sun today girls! What shoes are you looking to for a staple shoe this summer?

when two worlds collide

Tuesday, 22 March 2011

Afternoon ladies, I hope you've all had lovely days enjoying the sun and (kind of) warmth! I've had a reasonably stressfree day today so all is good down my end. My presentation for Thursday is done and dusted, I've had my interactive feature looked at and it's all ready to be handed in, and I had a singular, albeit slightly boring, lecture about the catwalk as performance this afternoon. Popped out for lunch and gossip with Leanne, Emily, Lucy, Lauren and Kerry too, which was lovely and filled with conversations and laughs about odd-looking animals! Sometimes its nice to just have a break during the week and think about something other than work.

(Sheer blouson dress, Peacocks;
Shorts, George at Asda, cut off myself;
Polka dot tights, Primark,
Elephant necklace, Accessorize.)

Not sure if this dress really works tucked in but hey ho, I wore it anyway! Need to get myself another sheer blouse soon, I've been looking at this and this. I also attempted those elusive beachy waves again and got halfway to my desired look. Watch this space though, because home means curling tongs and straighteners, so I'll probably experiment in time for the wedding I'm going to on Tuesday.

Just two more days until Mama comes to pick my things up to take home. I think we'll probably go to get some food as well, but I've not worked the plans out yet, got a major Uni presentation to give on Thursday afternoon! This week is pretty packed for me, tomorrow I'll have my usual Ways to Wear post, but I probably won't post on Thursday or Friday, on account of a) having my Mama in Soton for the afternoon, and b) Friday is my photoshoot day, then I'm seeing my bestest gal before I go home! I hope you enjoyed reading my entry for Yayer's blogging competition yesterday too: I wrote it while browsing their shop and putting off writing this week's Mags & Markets feature, and it was surprisingly theraupetic and fun to write.

On Sunday, I decided to follow Heather's veggie based chilli recipe, after seeing the recipe on her blog. I can't even describe how good it tasted haha, totally making another in the week, probably tomorrow! Heather really does post some of the nicest recipes around, and I always look forward to reading her posts. What are some of your favourite recipe blogs? I'm starting to think I've outstayed my welcome, lurking on the BBC Good Food website!

Boutique Spotlight: Yayer

Monday, 21 March 2011

I'm going to put my hands up and admit that I'm an online boutique shopaholic. Despite being on the tightest student budget you could imagine, I'm forever lurking on online shops, making the odd sneaky purchase here and there! Aside from my usual favourite haunts (i.e. Topshop, H&M, Zara, Miss Selfridge, Dixi and countless jewellery stores!), one of my current favourites is Yayer.co.uk.

Although I'm not a huge vintage expert, I've always admired bloggers like Ella, Kavita and Bekah from afar, who seem to find the best bargains around. What I love the most about Yayer is that for the less thrift-savvy like myself, Yayer is the perfect place to buy both vintage and brand new pieces. Nothing is overstyled, and there is a perfect collection of both vintage and new garments. Unlike many "boutiques" who overcrowd their shops with rather questionable pieces, Yayer sell only the best of the best.

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4.

If I were to have a no-limits spending spree at Yayer, I'd definitely pick the Mocha Floral Playsuit. The muted heather-purple-grey tones are perfect to be paired with a bright cardigan, floppy hat and sandals for the British summer. It could also be worn with low-denier, sheer black tights and some sky-high platform heels or block wedges with some gold toned jewellery for a night out - you all know how big I am on restyling items at the moment!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

I'm sure you'll all sick of me and my obsession for sheer, collared shirts at the moment. I just love how whimsical and flattering sheer garments can be! This Sidewalker Sheer Dress is so perfect in my eyes, I'm seriously having to resist clicking that 'Buy' button as I hide behind my online persona! I'd definitely wear a little slip underneath this, and pop a pair of those primary-school-esque lace ankle socks and brogues on! I'd also knot a tan belt round the waist to break up the long-ness of this piece!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Something a lot of my friends, and readers actually, pick up on is the lack of colour in my wardrobe! I always seem to opt for neutral colours, a LOT of black and the same few colours over and over again. I'm quite surprised that I've fallen so in love with this Burnt Gold Oversized Shirt to be honest - I think the loose-fit shape drew me to it first. Doesn't it just look like the cosiest, perfectly deconstructed piece ever? I'd pair this with a pair of my trusty denim cut-offs, patterned tights and lace-up boots for a laidback Summer look!

How would you style these pieces for the Summer? What are your favourites from Yayer this season?
----
In case you hadn't realised, this was my entry for Yayer's Blogging/Styling competition! The prize sounds absolutely amazing and would be a dream for me, cheesy as that sounds! And I also thought I'd challenge myself to write a focused blog post about a brand, and I've surprisingly really enjoyed it, so let me know if you'd like to see more of these types of posts once in a while!

You can find Yayer here on their SHOP/FACEBOOK/TWITTER.

Reached 1234 followers on Google Friend Connect last night, I love interesting numbers like these • Tried on a pair of tapered trousers/peg legs in Topshop, which I'll probably buy over Easter • Watched Breakfast at Tiffany's and Funny Face. Gosh I adore Audrey Hepburn • Wrote a Sports feature for my Uni feature portfolio • Indulged in a facemask that Mandy kindly gave me for Christmas! • Finalised my third year Uni options and dissertation - eek! • Me yesterday • It was lovely and sunny on Saturday • I've eaten too many Twirls this week! • #supermoon hype • Been getting into this chick-lit • A toasted waffle with banana slices and maple syrup for Sunday morning breakfast

SO excited that my next installment of Week in Photos will be posted from home! Expect more food, snaps with my sister and other bits and bobs!

note to self

Saturday, 19 March 2011

I'm experiencing severe writer's block at the moment, so excuse the slightly lacklustre post! It's so lovely and sunny in Southampton today, yet I've holed myself up in my room for another Saturday of feature writing for Uni. Luckily this week's assignment only stipulates a 1000-word feature to be aimed at a contract magazine of our choice as opposed to a piece about sports, which, needless to say, is totally not my forte!

(Minnie Mouse vest top, New Look;
Skirt, Zara;
Necklace, Swarovski;
Double finger ring, Accessorize;
Pale legs, The product of six months of religious tights adorning.)

I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of wearing this skirt from Zara. It's the perfect nod to the 50's trend at the moment, and you don't "need" a body with curves in all the right places, as you would for a full-skirted, fitted dress . (Note: I don't have one :P Curves or dress!) I've been wearing this skirt in a hundred different ways recently, and it would even look cute with a shirt for job interviews etc. Also, hello bare legs for the first time in months! I'm so pale it makes me cringe a bit, but it wasn't even cold when I popped out to buy a few bits and bobs this morning!

I've had this Minnie Mouse vest top for about two or three years now, and again, I wear it with everything - leggings, bodycon skirts, denim shorts, tailored cupro shorts, jeans... The list just goes on forever! Tops with cartoon characters on are a bit hit-and-miss overall, in my opinion, they can easily make you look like a 10-year-old child, yet can also look cute when paired unexpectedly with other garments. How would you style this vest?

In a last ditch attempt to overcome writer's block, I actually Google'd the Top 10 tips for sorting the problemo out. I love 'meditate' and 'flirt' the most hahaha, I can't imagine either of those would help me much! I've realised (sadly) that coffee is not the key, I can feel it dissolving my brain cells by each sip! Blah. At least I've decided to write this week's feature about beauty trends for the spring/summer so I won't be bored mindless once I post this and resume work! Hope you're having lovely, sunny Saturdays!

don't mind if i do

Thursday, 17 March 2011

Woke up late today and got ready in approximately 12 minutes, are you proud?! I don't know where the days are going at the moment, but I'm not complaining - just eight more days of assignments and then I'll be home for Easter.

(Nude/peach sheer blouse, New Look;
Floral culottes, Topshop from a few years ago;
Tights, H&M;
Brogues, Primark;
Rings, Topshop, JWLRY, Accessorize.)

This outfit is quite similar to one I posted a few weeks ago, but with more of a refined and tailored edge to it. The blouse and shorts are definitely my favourite pieces of clothing, I'm always wearing them, just in different ways! I'm slowly but surely adding colour to my wardrobe for the summery season, watch this space. I bought my first pair of brogues the other week, from Primark, and have instantly fallen in love with them. They look too cute paired with my cream knitted tights from H&M, and makes the outfit look a bit more contemporary and young, considering I'm wearing a buttondown blouse. I've seen even more blouses in New Look that I want to pick up recently, and they're currently running a 20% off promotion with vouchers in the in-store magazine, so grab a copy if you can!

Just wanted to say thank you for all the feedback on my post from Monday regarding tapered trousers: I think you've all persuaded me to pick up a pair, and I'll probs buy a pair of wedges too, just to balance my body out. I'm glad you're all still enjoying the Ways to Wear feature, I loved reading your comments in response to yesterday's edition which was requested by Bee! I've also finally got round to updating this fortnight's recommended blog in the sidebar: this fortnight features Michelle of The Feather Den, whose blog I am completely in love with. Finally, I added a nifty subscribe by email bar in the sidebar, so if you don't have a Blogger or Twitter account, you can still receive updates whenever I post!

Right, well I'm going to head back into Uni for my last seminar of the day now. I'm hoping to half-sprint home so I'll have maximum time to complete some more work, eat dinner at a reasonable hour, watch Eastenders (how cute are Abi and Jay?!) and catch up on blogs! Have a lovely Thursday!

Ways to Wear #5: holiday outfits

Wednesday, 16 March 2011

One of this season's hottest micro-trends comes in the form of shorts. A staple in most wardrobes, whether they be a jersey pair "for the house" (my personal favourite) or a tailored cupro pair for work, this Spring/Summer is all about baring your pins. While I appreciate not everyone is a huge fan of whipping their legs out, the beauty in the trend is that they come in all lengths, cuts, fits and patterns.

Curvier girls, or those who are a little nervous in the leg-baring trade, should opt for a tailored, longer length, much like a city short. Dark colours with minimal pattern are the most flattering, but make sure you pair them with a girly, lighter garment on top! Draw attention away from your legs with a DIY scallop detail for an on-trend look, or add emphasis to your legs with a 70's inspired patterned pair - the possibilities are endless!

This week's Ways to Wear was requested by the beautiful Bee, who is jetting off to Corfu in a matter of weeks for a holiday away. I figured shorts were a pretty standard holiday staple, and although I have already written a W2W feature on denim cut-offs, there are just too many shorts to pass up on the chance to write another!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4.

Look One is, in my opinion, a modern spin on the classic Summer, Rivera look. The bright blue of the top clashes with the dainty pink floral shorts, and revives the standard navy colour that is so often worn on holidays in the summer. For those who really want to wear floppy hats but feel self-conscious doing so while at home like me, I always find that going abroad means you can adopt a "new persona", bringing about the perfect opportunity to embrace that effortlessly chic look. While protecting your face from the sun rays and all that of course! This panama hat from Accessorize is the sweetest thing ever and would add a lovely, eclectic twist to this look. Finally, accessories should be kept to a minimum: bracelets, rings and watches are pretty much a no when in a sunkissed destination, so a mid-length necklace will suffice to add a little bit extra to an outfit.

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

I really wish that someone would have gently informed me that white shorts were not a good idea when going to the beach on a daily basis on my travels at a younger age. White goes see-through in water, so I tend to now steer clear of it whether popping to the pool or beach. Additionally, if you are pale before you go on holiday, as Bee has proclaimed she is, white will only wash you out further. I've picked this beige coloured pair from F+F at Tesco, which I swear by in the summer. They won't wash you out, they match perfectly with the majority of tops/bikini tops/swimming costumes, and will emphasise your tan when you finally get one! I've gone for this beautiful tie back suntop from Topshop to add some print to the outfit, which is another huge trend for this SS11. I think this would be a great day-to-night look too, perhaps if you were spending the day away from the beach, and then going out for a meal or drinks!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4.

My final Look is more of a throw-on outfit to go with a swimming costume or bikini. I often go out for a day and don't return to my hotel before going to the beach in the afternoon, and something simple, pale coloured and chic is perfect. All-in-one swimsuits are absolutely adorable at the moment, bringing a 50's-esque, kitsch touch to the beach! The top can easily be swapped for a kaftan, for another day-to-night easy look. Also, as a cheeky FYI, if you pick up a New Look in-store magazine, you get a lovely 20% off at the moment! ;)

I hope you all enjoyed this post, especially Bee!, as Easter break is nearing for us all and I'm sure a lot of my readers will be off on their travels soon! Keep those requests coming in on Formspring, Twitter, or by email if you have an item in mind, and I'll definitely see what I can do for you!

---

Just wanted to add a quick apology for being so MIA on Blogger and Twitter. I've been trying to get my University work all sorted for an early hand-in, so I can go home earlier! It's really not like me at all to not comment or read blogs for days on end! I'm definitely going to set some time aside tomorrow afternoon to have a proper catch-up with all you lovely ladies ;) If you have emailed me over the weekend and in the past few days, I'll try and reply to you in tomorrow's morning seminar - ha! Lovelove <3

14.03

Monday, 14 March 2011

Afternoon chicas! Hope you are all well and had lovely, relaxing/fun weekends! I believe I spent mine watching a lot of DVDs, eating a lot of chocolate and making a trip to the cinema. Just wanted to a quick sorry for being so slack with outfit posts recently: I haven't bought any new clothes recently, and I have so much work to be getting on with, that snapping photos of my clothes and tired self is more often than not out of the question! However, I had a day off today and popped to town to buy some garments to style some looks for an upcoming shoot.

(Knitted lace dress, Pussycat London at New Look;
Black high waisted shorts, River Island;
Key necklace, Forever 21 - thanks Mandy!
Compass necklace, Handmade by yours truly! ;)
Rings, Topshop.)

I've got a bit of a thing for tucking dresses, tunics and generally items that are meant to be left alone, into shorts and skirts recently. I think it's a really sweet and easy way to update a dress, especially if it's something you wear a lot, which I definitely have done! I'm really into wearing shorts and skirts this season, they're so versatile, cannot wait to get back to working so I can add to my wardrobe once again! I thought the outfit looks pretty bland in all honesty, despite the lace dress featuring a gorgeous pointelle knit pattern, so once again, I whacked on the accessories. I'm currently debating whether or not to sell my handmade jewellery over the summer? Don't want to feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon, but my Mumma seems to think it's a good idea! I've been busy designing other items to be sold as well, so hopefully all goes to plan!

Had lunch with Leanne, one of the course girls today! We've got a crazy obsession with Pret at the moment, where I had a Wiltshire ham and cheese baguette. So so good, I could happily live off those forever. I also had a snoop in Topshop again, following my Styling shopping spree. I seriously need the paperbag waist skirt in my life! Also tried on a pair of those pesky tapered trousers to no avail - these were from their Petite range and are still too long for me! Blahhh.

Tonight I'm off to a friend's house and then out for her birthday, so I probs won't be around much. I'm seriously behind in blog reading and commenting at the moment and I feel totally guilty! Less than two weeks to go until I'm home for Easter though eee! Hope you've all had a lovely start to the week (:

a (stressful) week in photos

Sunday, 13 March 2011

Opted for the lazy option with variations of stir-fry noodles for dinner • Bought some adorable new dresses... In the wrong size, damn you misleading Primark hangers! • Saw 'The Adjustment Bureau' with my flatmates - it was v. good but a disappointing ending • Sunsets are getting pretty again (: • Tried on this adorable dress in Topshop • Bought The Breakfast Scrub, a new mascara and some Creme Eggs • ME. Posing as per usual! • Cheap reading material for the week: Stylist is free, Look was £1! • Drank a lot of coffee and nommed many a triple chocolate cookie • Dithered (and am still dithering!) between options for my final year at Uni • Rock 'n Roll, catching up with Eastenders in the dead of night • Sneak preview of some still-life work for my Styling portfolio

Disclaimer: I didn't include photos of aforementioned stress. I've boxed that part of my week away now, SO ready for a new week!

5 Things: to make you smile

Friday, 11 March 2011

In light of today's devastating news about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, I wanted to spread a little happiness this Friday on my blog, with '5 Things...' that have made me smile this week. I know that a few of us have a lot on our plates at the moment, and spending 300 words talking about my new favourite dress seems a bit trivial and ridiculous right now. My thoughts are with those in Japan, and anyone directly or indirectly affected by this morning's events - the natural disasters at the moment are just terrifying.

1. My 'Madhouse' Family ♥

Phonecalls and chats with my family (Dad wandering around the house at 2am, watching YT videos, Mum casually baking cakes at stupid o'clock, my brother taping his car back together, Granny phoning me from our new car's in-car phone system, my sister and our many-hour-long chats) have brightened up my week <3

2. Being with Friends

My second family while I'm at Uni! There's never a dull moment when the girls are around to be honest (:

3. My Selective DVD collection

I brought these along with me to Uni (the other Hills boxsets are in the living room) and erm, I spend my life rewatching these. I never get bored of a bit of Ronald Weasley and Chuck Bass! Best enjoyed in a room lit by fairylights and with a mug of coffee.

4. Soap & Glory's 'The Breakfast Scrub'

Big thanks to Bee who initially got me looking into this product! Smells so lovely and smoothed my skin like no other product last night. A smidgen of pampering was key after a long and stressful day (:

5. Music Packed with Memories

My brother bought me new Sennheiser Enhanced Bass earphones for my birthday, which led me to downloading music that I haven't listened to in years. I've moved on from Cpop now, but waaaa, so many memories! What are your favourite songs that bring back memories?

Hope you're all well girls, keep smiling: the weekend is only a mere few hours away (if you're reading this as I post)! I'm off to write some features and stress over my third year options and dissertation a bit more. Eeep.

Thursday, 10 March 2011

I can't believe it's already Thursday! Where are the weeks going?! Not that I'm complaining, I'm pretty much counting down the seconds til I'm home for the Easter, so I can get down to earning those precious pennies once more. I'm probably going to be a bit AWOL, so to speak, towards the end of the month, I've got a crazy amount planned (as per usual) but more on that later...

(Mint green crinkle lace top, Topshop 2010;
Chain detail bodycon skirt, H&M;
Tan plaited belt, Primark - as if I needed to say!
Polka dot tights, Primark;
Rings, all from Topshop;
Umbrella necklace, Accessorize;

I'm going to put my hands up and admit that this was somewhat of a cheat outfit, although I am currently wearing it. I slept in until 8.20am this morning, despite having slept at 10pm last night and needing to be out of the door for 8.35am at a push! I'm so tired recently! So when I left the flat this morning, I was in this top, layered over a H&M tunic, and a pair of leggings. It was the most uncomfortable outfit ever, so I took advantage of my two-hour break to change into something more "me" and snap some photos for you! Oh to be a student/fashion blogger(!) I'm really into clashing prints and patterns at the moment, whether subtly like in today's outfit, or all out clashing as I'm planning for my final portfolio shoot at Uni. It's a bit of a hit-and-miss trend, but is easily done!

It was ridiculously windy today. I had a middle partin' sitch going on for the majority of my four walks across Southy, to and from Uni! Not attractive on me in the slightest, especially because my hair needs a cut (I think). Cannot wait for nicer weather so I can just rock a default dress and cardy look everyday haha, although compiling yesterday's Ways to Wear really inspired me to try trousers at some point. Again, I just can't wait to get home for Easter and earn some money - hello new clothes!

Today I realised just how much I have again attempted to slot in for the month. As well as getting all my Uni work done (this involves a portfolio of eight features, a Styling portfolio and photoshoot, a fashion history presentation, a webpage and four written feature, an exhibition review and many evaluative blogs, I've got my work colleague's wedding to attend on the 29th, a Taylor Swift concert on the 30th, and a Writing Fashion and Culture social mixer on the 31st. I'm so excited for the mixer event though, we'll be meeting editors of ELLE, ASOS and Harper's Bazaar, eep!

Finally, I picked the winner of my playsuit giveaway with Dixi Fashion on Monday, and the winner was Charlene! Well done sweet, hope you enjoy your prize! Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for reading and entering the contest (: Once again, this was a longer post than expected, so I'd better go and prepare my interview for a sports feature that I'm writing. (I know what you're thinking, a sports assignment on a fashion journalism course?!) Have a lovely Thursday!

PS. My nail varnish is Rain by Eyeko... Use my code (E10884) for a free gift with orders over £15 ;) I highly recommend Rain, Posh and Military polish, as well as Big Eyes mascara - my HG products!
