While everyone is out trawling the Christmas/January sales for a bargain or item of clothing that they'll never wear again, I wanted to put together a Ways to Wear post. The sales are an infamous time of year, handbags at dawn, elbows at the ready, all for that last Topshop dress with a ripped seam that has granted it a 75% discount.

My top tip? It's probably still not worth it. My top buy for the January sales? Basic tees, in abundance. My favourite selection is the Urban Outfitters range, but I guarantee that for some odd reason, the annual seasonal clearout warrants a clearout of retail's best-selling item from just about every high street and designer store.

Look One:

daisybutter - UK Style Blog: ways to wear, how to, basic, t-shirt, sales season

(Black bow cardigan, £55, Miss Selfridge;
Woven front tee, £8, Topshop;
Button front tap shorts, £30, Topshop;
Peach lace trim ankle socks, £3.50, Topshop;
Slip on suedette loafers, £15.99, New Look.)

Look One is inspired by that Meadham Kirchoff catwalk in September. I wanted to create something fun and Spring/Summer inspired while maintaining something for the Winter wardrobe, and this is what I came up with. I think the tee would look best untucked with the shorts, for a casual, low-key Look, and the chunky, bow patterned cardigan provides some much needed warmth. Frilly, lace ankle socks and flats complete the Look and are the perfect balance between cutesy and current.

Look Two:

(Top, £7.99, H&M;
Staring at Stars high-waisted shorts, £20, Urban Outfitters;
Knitted chunky stripe cardigan, £25, Topshop;
Lola headband, £32, Little Fille;
Colour pinspot tights, £8.50, Topshop;
Ribbed overknee socks, £6, Topshop;
Slouchy chain moccasins, £19.99, New Look.)

I seriously love the high-waisted shorts in this Look, the hemline is ridiculously cute. I kept everything monochrome, with coloured polka dot patterns on the tights (worn with knee-highs on top) and a navy, velvet bow headband from my beloved Little Fille. Cosy up with a huge chunky knit, and this makes the perfect everyday outfit, whether you're out shopping, running some errands or fancy wearing something other than reindeer-adorned pyjamas!

Look Three:

(Woven front tee, £10, Topshop;
Lolly lace shorts, £32, Motel Rocks;
Cream section necklace, £18.50, Topshop;
Cameo rose faux fur coat, £27.99, New Look;
Black and gold envelope clutch, £25, River Island;
Lavena peeptoe wedges, £35.99, Missguided.)

Finally, Look Three is my take on a New Year's soiree, more at home in a swanky bar than at a student house party *coughcough*. I'm in love with the mink/rose faux fur jacket, and seriously need to get into a New Look store to try it on, I've never managed to find my perfect faux fur coat. The vest is currently on sale in Topshop, now at a bargainous £10, and is such a lovely colour! Wear tucked into, or left out, of these gorgeous Motel lace shorts, pop some peeptoe wedges on, and a clean-cut, Art Deco-inspired statement necklace.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Just some new ways to wear a basic tee, because it can get so easy to dismiss them completely or to just opt for a safe option with jeans and flats (which isn't a bad thing!). Let me know which Look is your favourite, or even if you've found something similarly bargainous in your sales adventures this week! I'll be back tomorrow with an outfit post, and then again before the ball drops for a years' round-up type jobby.

    I'm in agreement with you over the sales - I went into town yesterday and was reminded why I hate them so much. Instead I hopped online and spent £10 on a skirt and top [buy one get one free!] on forever21. xx

    I'm online Motelrocks now for those lace shorts.. so pretty! Not sure what size to go for as I've never ordered anything from there. Do you find their sizes small fitting, or are they alright?xxx

  20. They're the perrrfect colour, right? Thanks Emma, I'm a label gal at heart, but the High Street will do while I'm on a student budget! Hope you're well and enjoying the holidays! (:

  21. They're so beautiful! I find their sizing pretty true to size, but I fluctuate between sizes a lot anyway, a few people say they run a little small (:

  25. Brilliant post, very inspiring and I love all the looks. I've been very careful in this years sales only to buy classic and long lasting pieces rather than this seasons 'trend'. I hope you had a lovely Christmas Michelle xx
