I wanted to go right back to basics with this week's Ways to Wear installment. It's been a constant nagging thing in the back of my head that this has turned into a "how to" feature, as opposed to showing ways to interpret and revitalise an item in your wardrobe, which is why I chose the very humble black Tee.

Before you all click away and scamper off in search of a bowl of hot soup and your blanket at the mention of a T-shirt, I've styled these Looks with a very broad, Winter-orientated mind. I thought I'd accidentally woken up in Antarctica this morning - it was freezing! Another little disclaimer too for newer readers: you don't "have" to buy a new T-shirt, or any of the items I've featured on here. Use them as a guide, and replace that £65 Topshop cardigan with a knitted cardy you already have, I just like to browse online for pretty things!

Look One: topshop tee · new look olive green parka · miss selfridge intarsia print skirt · zara ankle boots · zara hat · topshop tights

I spotted this printed skirt in Miss Selfridge earlier, while on an M&S festive sandwich mission, and instantly fell in love. It isn't the most versatile of pieces, and you'll probably manage about a month or two of wear with it, but I do appreciate a good Fairisle print when I see one, and the colours are perfectly muted! Wear with this parka (look for jersey lined, or you are likely to freeze outdoors!), tan ankle boots and a hat to keep your hair intact. For some reason I can picture Lyzi in this outfit!

Look Two: topshop tee · topshop leigh jeans in forest green · new look boots · river island faux fur collar · asos/disney couture earrings

Hello jeans! I've finally caved to the warmth of jeans, and I'm even tempted to ask the Mamabear for a pair of the famed Topshop Leigh jeans - the promise of supersoft is ever-alluring! Really like the idea of something simple, jeans, a Tee, some boots, classic earrings with a cutesy Minnie Mouse twist (one for the Christmas list at £34!) and a luxe faux fur collar. If you're not a fan of the faux fur look, I think some satin or grosgrain ribbon bought cheaply at a haberdashery and tied loosely at the neckline is a lovely touch too! I'm also going against my personal taste and recommending a snug-fit Tee with this Look: something boxy and that falls just above your hip is perfect. *cough* Liv would look perfect in this!

Look Three: topshop tee · topshop shorts · topshop cardigan · topshop over knee socks · new look rubber boots

Decided to add a homely, cosy Look into the mix this week, with some cable knit and tweed shorts. Wear the Tee tied up at the front - slightly to the side so it doesn't look like an alien growth/dodgy belly button - or untucked and loose over the shorts. (Great for Tees that are too big or borrowed from boyfriends!) and pop a casual, light coloured cardigan on top! Over knee socks are still adorable to me, but I'd definitely recommend wearing some nude tights underneath to keep some warmth in. Finish with these beyond-cute boots, and you have perfect 'Girl Next Door' chic.

I hope this post has encouraged some of you to dig deep and revitalise your black Tees! It's really easy to consign T-shirts to the attic or "Summer wardrobe" section, and then forget all about them come next season, so try a few Looks out and you could be pleasantly surprised! Uniqlo have some amazing Heattech T-shirts in, which really work, so they could be a worthwhile investment if you feel the cold!

And (another sneaky self-promotion!) if you have Tumblr, you can find more Ways to Wear posts at my Ways to Wear Daily blog to tide you over until next week's edition! ♥

Love all the looks, especially the 2nd one with the green jeans. The New Look boots are on my shopping list as is the cute bobble hat in the first picture :) I'm a massive fan of basic tee's in black/white or grey and wear them all the time - so easy to style x

  9. I'm lusting for a pair of green jeans, but I prefer high waisted as I find them more flattering on my figure - I have some seriously short legs! Thiose shorts in the 3rd image are fantastic, they look so cosy also.

  12. do you know I have always been kinda scared of tshirts (as silly as that sounds!) I feel like I can never get one which is a flattering shape and never know what to put them with - you've given me so many ideas! Really can't decide which look is my fave, gonna have to go for look two I think, so so so so in love with those earrings, they're so adorable! I've been on the hunt for some jazzy studs recently so these are deffo gonna be going on my xmas list! love the little fur collar, it just adds such a trendy vibe doesn't it and I think it would make the neckline look so much more flattering (which is always my biggest fear with tshirts!) love the skirt from look one, I've seen so many items with that pattern recently :) the colour of those shorts is gorgeous in look three too - im on the hunt for some deep red jeans but they seem to be sold out everywhere :( :(
