I believe this is my first Ways to Wear edition in three weeks, and the first so far in September, how crazy is that? I've been a little slack with these, and have been more immersed in other posts I suppose, but they are probably my favourite little feature to write and work on for Daisybutter. I hope everyone is doing well too, my dashboard has been alarmingly quiet recently? Or is this another techno fail on Blogger's behalf?

This week I am concentrating on Ways to Wear outfits for Uni. I've been sneakily reading everyone's Back-to-Uni/School guides, despite the fact I'm now going into my final year, and this seemed like a nice way to join in with that trend but still providing something different. Now my first thought when it comes to dressing for lectures and seminars, or for popping in to the library, etc. is comfort and availability, with availability being a masked term for "what you can find in the mornings". With this in mind, each look is simplistic and versatile, yet remains very much on-trend for the A/W11 season.

Some well worn-in denim and knitwear seems bookish and prim, but I love this polka dot print jumper from Miss Selfridge. I saw it when I went shopping with Emma, and it is so soft and homely feeling, if you know what I mean? At £39, it is pretty steep, but the perfect investment if you want something versatile, warm and that hints at the Dalmatian print trend, caused by my ever-trusty Topshop (Unique AW11 collection). I know people think I'm crazy for continuing to feature and wear shorts for Winter, but paired with cable-knit tights (I live in these, worth every penny of that £9.99!), they are just as wearable as on your summer hols! Fold those jumper sleeves up twice, slip a gold bracelet on, and pop a knitted turban over your hair and you're good to go. Even if you forgoed a hairwash for that extra ten minutes in bed.

Look Two is pretty standard Daisybutter outfit material. I wore my Hollie jumper in Mocha from Missguided yesterday, and absolutely adore it. It is a bit scratchy on the inside, but nothing a three-quarter length bodysuit won't fix, and it is flecked with little sequins, which sound awful but are so pretty in reality. Wear the jumper with the front hem tucked into the skirt, and belted with that Dalmatian print again. The back of your jumper should be loose for an easy I-rushed-into-Uni-look-how-good-I-look feel, and push back your sleeves to show off a bracelet that shows off your personality. If you're just starting your first year, it's always good to pinpoint some jewellery that might become a conversation starter! I chose this feather one which looks feminine and earthy at the same time. Finally, shoes: I've paired this gorgeous red pair of Chelsea boots with Look Two, but if you're not brave enough for the red, a slouchy pair of brown boots (yep, brown and black is okay, I promise!) like these look amazing for a Whitney Port inspired outfit.

Unintentionally styled a solely H&M and Topshop outfit here, but truthfully speaking, if you are entering student life, you will become very attached to these High Street brands if you aren't already a devoted fan. H&M are always good for basics and are getting really great for more on-trend pieces at throwaway prices, while Topshop are pricey, but have a 10% all year round discount, which I often abuse, and a 20% off student event each AW. Lovely! I own about five of these fine-knit jumpers from H&M, they are perfect to throw on with leggings and a scarf for effortless chic, and it is a strangely slimming outfit! They come in so many colours, so click the link above for all other colourways. I opted to style this look with a faux fur stole, and with that comes gold jewellery for a luxe, semi-grunge look.

Finally, you can't really head off to Uni without a bag, right? I'm going to confess at this point that I am one of the most impractical people when it comes to bags: I carry my Mulberry Alexa, and then a shopper tote for my notebooks! Olivia at What Olivia Did wrote a post about her tote bag finds the other day, which covers all that I wanted to say, and features some lovely eclectic little bags and brands, so have a read here. I hope this was somewhat useful, as we embrace the jumper-clad ways of the English Autumn. Of course these aren't limited to students by any means, I don't mean to tar you all with the same brush, but these three Looks are just some simple outfits that have room to add touches of personality, which is perfect for starting a new Uni/college/school term with. Enjoy! xo

  3. I can't decide between look 2 & 3 for my favourite, although 3 would be perfect for my casual yet not scruffy office wear policy so I'm being swayed.. I'll definitly have to visit h&m for their cheap knits!
This post has actually taken me back to cold late afternoon trips to the library in my 3rd year, I hated tham back then but now I'm suffering from post education nostalgia it seems.

  5. I love the first look, the jumper is so cute! And the last one is similar to what I would often go for when needed to pop out to the library or to the shop to buy some sweets to go with my movies. So simple and casually elegant.

  28. I have never seen those H&M fine knit jumpers before (which is strange considering how much I stalk your blog, haha) - I can see they would be perfect for my work wardrobe on days when I want to dress slightly more casually (there are so many days when I wake up and all I know is that I want to wear leggings, so have to plan an outfit around that!) Also going to have to get myself some of those cable knit tights!

  29. Oh my ! Fell in love with that Miss Selfridge jumper ! Apparently my local Miss Selfridges [I live on Island, yes everything is within reach :P]
don't have this top ! They've got it in the egg plant version which isn't as nice !
I hope I find it ! And the online Miss Selfridge only've got the size 4 left... maybe they'll restock it, I hope ! I so much love your Ways to Wear posts !
That boohoo jumper is so comfy too ! I've got the black version, I really just want to snuggle up in it !

  32. Michelle, I love this ways to wear post! I have been thinking up little outfits to wear on my first day of uni and this has inspired me so much. I love the idea of the dalmation print belt or a piece of jewellery to show a bit of personality or as a talking point :)
I also can't wait to try the dalmation print nails out that you posted about today!

  33. LThese would be the perfect outfits for cold winter mornings to college, I'd definitely parter look three with a denim jacket with a hoodie under and black docs to give it a bit of edge. However the chic look is very cute also :)
