I'm not a make-up buff by any standards, I have no skills in application of the magical goodness that apparently beautifies, and I genuinely have the smallest collection ever, but I had a small influx of requests about how I get my face to look the way it does, and thought I'd share with you all! Aren't I lovely?!

I'm currently trying to refine my routine: I'm after quality and not quantity, and a few products rather than a lot, all to achieve the same look. I went through a phase of impulse buying products that looked pretty but did nothing for me, but then my Mum spied my expanding collection, thrust some of her unused Lancôme, Chanel and Elizabeth Arden make-up upon me, and my attitude towards make-up changed drastically. By the way, nothing here was sent to me for review purposes, I bought everything with my own money (ouch!) with the exception of some things donated to me by my long-suffering Mum!

I've never used a foundation before in my life. Some find this very strange and hard to believe, but I was always told I wasn't allowed to wear make-up until I turned eighteen, and by then, I didn't have anyone to learn beauty related stuff from! I see that as a blessing in disguise, because I have a clear, light olive complexion with pretty much no blemishes/spots. Until I was 17, I used Lancôme's LCM cleansing range, then switched to what I use now, which can be found here.

I do, however, like to use my Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream in #21 if I particularly want a more even skintone, as I have some highly pigmented areas on my face. I'll be writing a more detailed review of my experiences with BB Creams at my Uni blog if you want to read that! I prefer bright blushes, worn very sparingly for a wash of colour, and switch between my Elizabeth Arden 'Almond' blush and Benefit 'Dallas' to bronze and contour on occasion. I only use one brush, which is from Lily Lolo, that I repurchase over and over again.

Urban Decay have never failed me for eyeshadows: I have the Alice in Wonderland palette, the Naked palette and a few individual shadows. I personally prefer neutrals and warm colours, so the Naked palette is my HG, so to speak. My AiW palette is generally reserved for styling photoshoots and other Uni projects! I got my Elizabeth Arden gel eyeliner at LFWE two years ago and haven't gone back to kohl since, despite being tempted by a Chanel kohl liner! I apply it with the freebie brush which is small enough for travel, and perfect to create a steady line and a cat-eye flick. Mascara wise, I used to worship my Eyeko Big Eyes mascara, a firm favourite of many years, but since the price went up, I was reluctant to spend so much on essentially a drugstore mascara. Currently using Lancôme's Doll Eyes which is my favourite of theirs so far. I currently use ELF's eyebrow kit in light, but really want to try something new with more staying power.

Lips-wise, I almost never use glosses, but if I do, I opt for a Stila lip glaze, which I won in a surprise competition at Gem's blog. That girl is an absolute star. My favourite is Kitten, a lovely nude with a slight shimmer. I then usually have these lipsticks floating about in my handbag: anyone else hoard lipsticks around on a daily basis for no apparent reason? Current favourites are Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine in Boy, and MAC's Modesty.
My skin is a non-descript normal type, which gets a little dry if I travel. My skincare routine can be found here. I have a light olive complexion with a warm undertone, and I never leave the house without at least an SPF15 on. I have never used a sunbed or self-tanner.

  1. I really want the Naked palette. I wear neutral colours aswell so this would be perfect. I've heard so many good reviews about it.
Would you rate Lancome mascaras? I'm looking for a new one because mine are all drying up.

I'm very much the same with quality not quantity, more expensive products are well, more expensive but they last long and are so much better for the skin.

  2. Lovely post! I've ordered the Missha BB cream (I don't wear foundation either) and I have high hopes for it! I have a small collection of make up myself, and always stick to the same products :) x

  4. I love how simplistic you are with your makeup. I have more makeup at the moment than I have ever owned and I hate the fact it just sits there without being used! I would love to have a 'capsule' collection like you and simply repurchase my favourite items when they've ran out. I really want to cut down! xxx

  6. I too have not too many make-up items but most of mine cost under £10 as I don't earn that much money. I totally agree about getting products that are just right for YOU - i.e. on my eyes I only wear browns, greys or even a purple eyeliner - I can't imagine wearing bright blue eyeshadow these days just for the sake of it!!!

    Great post!

  7. I've got the Missha BB Cream and I absolutely adore it! I need to order a back up really! I love gel liner too, and I really love my Maybelline one but I'd quite like to try Bobbi Brown's liners. I've heard good things about Lancome mascaras, I'll have to branch out and try one :) xx
