(photo heavy post!)

Wasn't going to post today, didn't really wear anything amazing (just a freebie Fashion Week T-shirt and old skirt) and I haven't felt particularly inspired to take photos of myself. My hair is awful at the moment, it really needs a cut but I can't decide what I want, and am currently toying with growing it out a little for the first time in two years, and getting some medium brown, goldeny kind of tones put through the middle layers. We shall see!

I was laying in my room flicking incessantly through glossy magazines last night and took a few photos of pages that jumped out at me in Vivi and Mina magazine. When I wrote a tiny bit about having bought these a week or two ago, there was a lot of interest surrounding them, so I figured it'd be nice to share some pages for those who've never read a Chinese fashion magazine before. Of the two, Vivi is my favourite, I also adore More magazine, which my Mama usually buys and passes on to me.

It's crazy how Westernised some of the looks are, a few months ago, the content was quite different! If you so wish, and if I can find my old copies, I'll follow up with some scans of old issues. I believe the lovely Winnie also posted some Vivi scans from the last issue, so go and have a look if this interested you. I've been preparing a mini feature for FTG about Asian/Western fashion ideals this Summer, so you can take this as a little introduction and snippet of what is to come!

Tonight's plans involve the above. And attempting to learn more Nicki Minaj songs by heart. Aah student summer life...

  1. My auntie use to save me all her chinese magazines, this reminded me of that. I had long forgotten about those years of reading through the mags (although not really reading because i can't read chinese. can you?). I just flicked through, looked at pretty pics, and cut out the things i wanted (mainly a pink BabyG watch!). ....cringey to say it now. But i was only 8!

  7. Sarah: I can read about 80% of Chinese I'd say! I'm a little slow, but I can read it (: Hahaha I used to be that girl too, always wanted a pink BabyG watch, my best friend had one and I was insanely jealous of her!

Hayley: I absolutely adore the layout of them, definitely something to explore in my final year at Uni. Haha so calorific but amazing ;)

Simone: Oh I think you'd love it, there's so much in there to be inspired by. I think people sell back issues on eBay if you wanted to get your hands on some!

Laura: I really love it (: Haha I am kinddd of excited to eat that badboy tonight!

Amy: Hahaha I know! I adore the layouts in these magazines though, so cutesy and colourful, completely different to Western fashion Bibles ;)

Krissy: Aaah me too :D I've only read Chinese ELLE... once, I think, so so different from the British version! Hahaha I know, my Mum spent a small fortune on these, bloody sellers pricing them up! :-P

  9. Oh my Nicki Minaj is such a hero. Looking at your pictures I realised I haven't bought a magazine in such a long time.. what a poor fashion journalism student I am.

Those magazines are laid out a lot like American magazines, which always seem much more interesting than the ones we get over here! xx

  10. Beth: It's such a lovely magazine, so much content too! I'll try and find my old issues, I have an awful feeling I've packed them away somewhere 'safe'!

Victoria: She's an absolute babe. Perfected 'Super Bass' last week, gonna get cracking tonight. Hahaha I usually get the Mamabear to pick them up with the weekly shop, way too expensive! XO

  22. It IS kind of amazing how western the looks in these magazines are getting! I find almost all of the looks and outfits very identical with eachother, but somehow they still manage to look very unique. Oh, and that triple chocolate sundae looks sooo good!
