Hope you're all indulging in the sun and warmth this afternoon! This week's edition of Ways to Wear features the black work trouser, a typically lacklustre and boring garment that is sadly a staple in the work wardrobe. The lovely Kate at kate louise requested a feature on these, and I was not going to be one to disappoint! I enlisted the help of Mama Daisybutter for this, as she is always in her black work trousers and finding sweet combinations of outfits on a daily basis.

This has, by far, been the most difficult item to style in three ways! I've never had an office job, so God knows how I'd cope with finding new looks to wear every day, I'd just keep my fingers crossed that it was more of a relaxed wardrobe code. As you can probably tell, I'm totally into my nude, warm tones again at the moment, with a few pops of colour to brighten things up.

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Look One is a tailored look, which I wanted to include to show that officewear doesn't have to be a plain blouse and trousers look. This empire line blouse from Topshop has the sweetest floral print on it, yet is understated enough to work, at work. Empire line pieces are perfect to wear under a loose cardigan or even under a blazer/tailored jacket if your job requires, and will emphasise or give the impression of a tiny waist. Add a grey satchel bag for smart, ladylike chic, also a great nod to a summer colour palette, and add some pale coloured flats. I also had to include the Galina bracelet by Wallpaper Rose, how cute is the Russian doll charm?!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4.

I like Look Two because of its' versatility. Although the top is draped and quite casual, the kimono jacket instantly smartens the look up and looks 'expensive', as Gok and Brix would say! In keeping with the Orient-inspired jacket, I've added a long Origami bird necklace as a simple detail, and some tan moccassins which are perfect for work and are my favourite type of shoe. This look could easily work as a day-to-evening look, by swapping black trousers for a pair of paperbag waist shorts!

Get the look! 1, 2, 3, 4.

I wanted to create something fresh and fun for my final look, which I did by adding a bright peter pan collar top into the mix. Most people, Mama Daisybutter included, see brights as a no-no at work, but I think this look works with neutral accessories to compliment the top as a statement piece. Tuck the top into a high-waisted pair of black trousers, cinch in with a rope belt and throw an oversized blazer over the top for instant chic. Also, how cute is this map bag from Urban Outfitters?!

I hope I did this garment justice! It was definitely the most challenging so far! Please keep your requests coming for future Ways to Wear posts, it can range from cardigans to jeans, to LBD's and T-shirts. I'm popping out for a shopping trip with the Mamabear tomorrow, and browsing online stores for this post has added lots to my To-Buy list, eep! You can possibly expect an outfit and/or 'What I Bought' post tomorrow!

  6. I always stick to dresses and skirts at work as I find them so much easier to wear and style than trousers...now I have lots of ideas how I can mix things up a bit and actually wear them!xx

  20. I adore Look Two! I think black trousers are definitely one of the most difficult things to style up but yet again you've done amazingly. I adore the map bag and the origami necklace too. Wish the kimino was cheaper - looks so pretty!

  21. Great Idea! Now I wish my work trousers were in good enough condition to wear outside of work! I waitress in a Hotel and rarely get time off long enough to wash them! They get thin quickly when you work dinner and Breakkie!

Three beautiful outfits again :') I love all of them. The Russian doll bracelet in #1 is so sweet!

  32. It was near impossible considering I've never had a grown-up job Bee! I'm 98.9% sure that I've seen kimono jackets in Primark for a fraction of the price actually... Primark absolutely need an online store! Hope you're well lover. xx
