Being home for the weekend from Uni still hasn't lost its' appeal despite this being my fourth day at home this week. I'm someone who loves her solitude and me-time: don't get me wrong, I absolutely love and value my family, more than almost anything else, but being able to live independently - even if just for Uni - has been such an eye-opening experience for me. I've learnt to cope if I get ill, if I'm hungover (kind of, I still rely somewhat on friends serving me up something good to eat!), I've learnt to cook and experiment ever so slightly in the kitchen. It's been a good experience overall!

Home for me is good to see my family, sleep in a cosy bed and not have to worry about what food I have left in the cupboard. At home, I always have, and still do, cook, wash-up, do the laundry, so it isn't even about the luxury, I guess what I'm trying to say is to appreciate your family for every moment that you're at home. Being away at Uni and not seeing my Mum, for example, for up to two months at a time makes me appreciate her that bit more!

ANYWAY. Went off on a bit of a tangent there, didn't I?! I love my family fo' life and all that ;) Being home also means being able to borrow clothes from my sister, which leads me to this outfit. (I guess that was kind of related?!) I often find my clothes casually hanging out in my sister's wardrobe with her clothes. I think this is a generic, standard rule-of-thumb between sisters?! I think I'll just have to accept that my heart print playsuit and UO grey jersey top have been stolen for good now.

(Grey slouchy burnout top, UO;
Ice-cream sundae print dress, Reko at Topshop;
15 denier tights, Primark,
Crystal on tan cord, Swarovski;
Flower pendant, Trinket Box - thank you again Sophie!)

This ice-cream printed dress is the most adorable thing ever. I saw it about two or three years ago in Topshop, tried it on, wanted to go back and buy it - and it was gone. It turned out that my Mum bought the dress for my sister, whaaaat a cheek! But it is quite handy now, because we're the same size, and my sister rarely wears it - jackpot! I like the dress both on its' own and with my (can I call it mine...?) trusty slouchy grey top over it as I so often like to do.

Just wanted to draw your attention to Sophie's beautiful designs over at Trinket Box. Sophie designed and made me this flower, or dare I say daisy!, pendant with a tiny M stamped on it, as a thank you for designing her blog header, and I'm absolutely in love with it! I'm a huge lover of jewellery, be it a dainty, handmade piece, a longer necklace or wearing about twenty rings at once.

I'm off to work at my parents' restaurant tonight. Haven't worked there since Christmas, so no doubt I'll be struggling to keep up! Hope you all have lovely Saturdays, think of me tonight while I'm surrounded by all-you-can-eat Chinese food and unable to eat any of it!

  1. I only have a brother so luckily he doesn't steal my clothes (I do like his hoodies for duvet days though!) but I've always wanted a sister to swap/steal clothes from. The ice cream dress is so cute, makes me want warmer weather so bad!

    I know what you mean about living on your own- I don't think I could ever move back in with my parents full time as I love having my own flat and living exactly how I want to, but it makes me appreciate my family so much more when I do visit them- especially when my mummy bear cooks me a roast dinner!xx

  5. Emily: Haha I'd be worried if my brother borrowed my clothes! I often wear his T-shirts tucked into a skirt or something though. Aaah same, so excited for warmer weather = little dresses and BBQ parties! I know just how you feel, its nice to be back for a bit, but I love my independence too much at the moment (: xxx

    Cat: Eeeep I know, so pretty :3

    Lydia-Lee: Yeppy! I like working there because my Mum, who organises our staff rotas, always saves shifts for me so I won't run out of money haha, nice and convenient! x

    Emma: It's so prettty! I'm constantly borrowing it from the sis ;) xxx

  6. Living away from home definitely makes you appreciate your family much more. I used to fall out with my mum all the time when I was living under her roof, but now its all changed and we hardly ever fall out now. I don't think that I could live with them full-time again as I love my independance, but it is nice to go back now and again.

  9. Amey: I'm exactly the same, I used to have so many arguments with my Mum before, and now it's much nicer and we appreciate each other more. I'll be moving home after Uni for a little bit while I find my own two feet, but I think it'll be nice after being away for so long!

    Rose: Haha I even borrow from my Mum and brother, s'all good ;) I thought you were a triplet? Or am I thinking of someone else entirely?! Thank you, the extra T-shirt was needed for warmth, don't think I can get away with strapless sundresses just yet! xx

    Laura: I even borrow from my brother, anything for something new and different to wear! Thanks lovely (: Oh tell me about it, getting into my uniform will depress me enough! And no nail varnish at work >.< Hope work goes relatively quickly for you tonight! xx

  16. Courtney: I think my ideal situation would be my own little apartment on the opposite side of the same town. Far away enough for my parents not to bother coming and seeing me, but close enough to pop in and see them once in a while! Haha nice ;) I steal T-shirts, etc. from my 18 y/o brother, which I'm sure he appreciates(!)

    Rachel: Awh are you? (: My cousin used to board as well and loved coming home for nice meals and just to get away from being in the same place on her own all the time!

    London's Beauty: Thanks sweet!

    Gem: N'awh thank you! I love the shape, fit and print on the dress, way too cute!

  17. Aw, the little section about how you feel when you're at home is so lovely. I still have a few months over a year till I'll have to move away to uni so I haven't yet experianced having to live away from my parents + siblings for long amount of time but I'm sure I'll feel the same way as you. I rely so much on my parents for them to provide for me but I know there will come a time when I'll have to provide for myself.

    Your dress sense if beautiful by the way! x

  18. I love your necklace :) It's really beautiful.

    I'm heading off to university soon and I'll be 5 hours away from my family! I'm not even sure if I'm excited or terrified yet, ahaha. I guess we'll see when I get there :)

    Alex: Thank you, Sophie is such a talented ladyyy! Oh gosh really? I'm sure you'll enjoy it, its such a strange feeling, moving to Uni! I'm about three hours away from my family, but it's just a few train journeys away to get home! x

  20. I used to love being able to go home for a bit during Uni, it's so relaxing and you don't have to worry about shopping and looking after yourself when you're at home!

  21. I love that dress! I tried to buy it when it first came out too, but I never saw it in my local Topshop :(

    I always raid my sisters' wardrobes when I come home - I figure anything they haven't taken to uni with them is fair game haha!

  36. I agree that I appreciate my family more when I go home for the weekend now that I did when I lived there 24/7. But equally I love my independence of living by myself and no answering questions about everything I'm doing! But then I miss having my mum and stepdad to rely on at times, especially when things are not going well!

    My sister has moved away from home so unfortunately I can't steal her clothes!
    Ahhh you've made me crave chinese food now yum!

It also looks pretty with the tee. You'll be the best stylist in the world ;) Ah man, I love all-you-can-eat Chinese more than anything, haha.
