As I write this, I am procrastinating (surprise surprise!) from writing up the notes from today's Styling assignment into an informal report for my Uni portfolio. I just can't seem to visualise how I'd like my final portfolio to be presented, and don't want to commit to putting it together yet! Does anyone else's "creative mind" completely freeze over when deadlines and dates are involved?!

(Peter pan collar polka-dot tunic, Topshop, £26;
Skirt with belt attached, Zara, £22.99;
Owl ring, H&M, £3.99)

Just another little way I decided to style this tunic from Topshop. On its' own, the tunic seems a little too long, and sits strangely underneath cardigans, so I popped a skirt on top to cinch it in and make it look completely different. As part of my latest Fashion & Styling assignment, we've had to identify and analyse our own styles, and I figured I tend to wear a lot of basic seperates, which is shown well in this outfit. I really like this skirt, I spotted it in Zara when shopping with Mandy a few weekends ago, and wasn't sure on it at first, but it looks nice with looser tops tucked into it. The belt is sewn onto the back of the skirt, which is a bit annoying but it goes nicely with this outfit.

I painted my nails in Butter London's Yummy Mummy last night, which has got to be one of my favourite nail colours of all time. It's just a nice, taupe colour with the tiniest sparkly reflex in it, and I added some Barry M glitter polish to the cuticles, flaring it out slightly for a bit of a spin on my standard nails.

Today's assignment was actually quite fun and didn't feel like work at all! The purpose of the task *looks at assignment sheet* was to experiment with new ideas, train the eye and appreciate basic elements/considerations that are required when styling a model. I hadn't realised the effort and amount of time it takes to style an outfit properly and make it sit well on the model. My model was just a friend, and I actually really liked the final restyled look on her!

I'm probably spending the rest of my day choosing a portfolio for this unit in all honesty. I really can't decide, and I'm such a stationery geek, this is a huge decision for me to make! Any suggestions? It has to be A3 and I ideally want a hard cover and for it to look quite sleek, professional and "nice"!

  7. Amey Jane: Thanks Amey! I've seen so many people in it, I wanted to wear it a little differently! (:

ScienceGeek: Thank you! I'm hoping they don't chip because they'll be a nightmate to touch up afterwards with the extra glitter detail aha. xx

Jennie: Thank you (: It does sit a bit strangely, quite tent like I think, but styled with other items seems to be okay!

Hannah: Thank you! I think I'm very much someone who likes to pair things differently and just rewear the same pieces in different ways!

Charlene: Thanks sweet! Zara's ones are really cute, and they have different colours too as far as I can remember (: xx

  19. You look brilliant here miss :) Ive seen this tunic before, and what youve done with it is a totally refreshing take! Love it! Your assignment sounds scary but awesome :) haha this is a girl who literally just 'throws' things on. I have very little fashion sense and having to plan an outfit out scares me! :( haha. I am also a fellow stationary geek, total sucker for hard backed a3 folders with nice bound plastic pockets inside :) hope you find 'the one'! xx

  20. Connie: I really recommend them! They're a tad pricey, but the packaging is beautiful, the brush and application is perfect, and there's a massive range of colours to choose from! xxx

Heather: Thanks lovely, did those photos just for you! I love the colour of it, I slightly regret buying it because its quite an autumnal colour? But I'm sure I'll find a way to wear it! xx

    Daria: Thanks sweet! (:

Naomi: Thank you! I'm actually really proud of my nails, I hardly ever do anything interesting to them really. Oh gosh, I still haven't decided! The Paperchase website is still up! Bleh!

Ellen: Thank you lovely! Probs one of my favourite nail varnishes!

Harriet: Aw thank you Harriet :D x

Lyzi: Thank you Lyzi (: Hope you are well! xxx

    Lucy: Thanks sweetie! <3

    Toni: Thank you!

Ellio100: Thanks sweet, I feel like I've worn this tunic a LOT of times on the blog? >.< Oh well aha. Thank you, thought it needed a little extra something to be honest! (:

Gem: My Mama bought it for me while I was at home <3 Probably wouldn't have been able to buy it otherwise! Thanks lovely. xx

Ayden: Aw thanks Ayden (: It felt quite tent-like so I just whacked a cinching skirt over it! Aha I really enjoy styling and experimenting with different looks, so I'm really looking forward to it all. Owh, you've totally described my dream folder <3 I just need to find one that is relatively affordable now ;) xxx

Emma: Thank you! Think I just wanted an excuse to wear my new skirt really ;) x

  29. as a fellow stationery nut i can identify with feeling the need to find the perfect notebook. if you can't find something *just* right, why don't you get a plain black one and get some thin silver ribbon and glue a strip of it like 2 inches from the edge of it?
    told you i liked stationery)

cos that would look unique but not too fussy :)

  30. i have that tunic - loved how you styled it x

  31. Styling seems so complicated. Sometimes, it takes me forever to pick out an outfit and I'll never know if it will be received well! I like how you thought outside the box here and tucked your tunic though

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow, analysing your own style must be really tough - I wouldn't know where to start!

Nevertheless, you look lovely as always - am liking the twist on the tunic, it looks great as a top. Also reeeally like the glitter flare idea for the nails...might have to give that one ago- thanks!

  34. Gem: Oh no ): I did pop an email over to the big guns at Blogger over the weekend but obviously to no avail. Sucks! I shall be trying again! Thank you Gem, felt a bit weird wearing a skirt that wasn't skin tight hahaha! xxxx

Rose: Thank you! My Mama always used to paint my nails for me at weekends when I was about 7, on the condition that I stopped biting them! Probably why I'm so much of a varnish addict now ;) N'awh thanks hun, I just adore my skirt, wanted a reason to wear it! xx

Jess: Aw thank you so much Jess (: It's nice having a bit of a change from my standard bodycon skirt. I'm excited to "introduce" my new spring/summer bits to the blog! xxx

    Elise: Thank you Elise <3

    Rebecca: Thanks lovely!

Jennie: N'awh thank you Jennie <3 xxx

Mollie: Thank you! I didn't think collars really suited me, but I've gained such an affinity for them recently. I'm gonna just blame the blogasphere to be honest! xx

Kate: Oh thank you lovely! xx

Emma: I'm seriously struggling still :'( Oh that sounds good actually! I'm opting for black, hard cover so that I can embellish it accordingly once I've figured out what direction I want to take my portfolio! Guh, I'm a bit of a perfectionist with things like this! x

    Kirsty: It's such a cute piece isn't it?! x

Alyse: I'm really excited to get to grips with it all! It's something I enjoy, but am always learning more about as I tend to just chuck things on when "styling" myself! xx

  36. absolutely love how you've worn this! i've seen the tunic on 23456543 different blogs so its refreshing to see it styled a little differently! deadlines force my brain to vegetate, haha, such a pain! good luck with your portfolio and stressful stationary decisions ;) xxxx

  37. Danni: It was so difficult! I normally just... put clothes on?! And naming my fashion icons/heroes was hard as well, seeing as I don't really consciously take inspiration from celebs and such! Thanks so much for your comment (: Flaring the glitter is a lot more subtle than a full-on glitter nail I think! xxx

Helen: Haha ;) Thanks Helen! xx

Sarah: I hadn't heard of the brand before my Mum bought me 2x bottles for my birthday last year, but I absolutely love it! xxx

Sian: Awh thank you sweet! Ugh same, they stress me out and all my creativity just goes straight out of the window ): Hhahaha, I should really prioritise the work over my choice of stationery now that you say it like that! Oops! ;) xxx

  46. Alana: Owh cheers sweet <3 Oh gosh the money situation is dire, clothes swapping is gonna become an option soon! Aha it was pretty fun, as if I had to wear trousers and a jumpsuit though, fml! xxxx

Lily: Haha twinz! Yeah exactly, I knew that'd be a risk from the moment I bought it, but the polka dots and collar were too cute to pass up! It's quite versatile to style around though. xx

Karo: Thanks so much lovely (:

Aimee: N'awh thank you! Waaa, crap computers are not fun, thankfully mine seems to be okay now! Hope you're well sweet! xx

    Kimberly: Thanks!

Kim: Thank you! It does look completely different, the tunic in general needs cinching in because it's quite tent-like, but with a skirt it just looks like a new piece! Oh I think so too, Zara have some lovely ones in other colours too! xx

    Sarah: Thank you (: xx

    Vicky: Thanks Vicky! xxx

Rosie: Awh thank you (: It's a really weird fit, I feel slightly uncomfortable wearing it on its own, but its fine with other items! xx
