Tag: Hi My Name Is Michelle

Wednesday, 31 March 2010

Saw this tag floating around on both Tumblr and Blogger, and I am extremely bored (and procrastinating from my essay once again!) so I present you with a tag! Lots of people have posted and generically tagged 'all readers', so if you enjoyed this, repost with your own answers and link me, I would love to read your replies :)

Hi, my name is: Michelle :)

Never in my life have I been: To New York... I was just speaking to the Muv about this earlier actually *hint hint*

The one person who can drive me nuts is: My sister, but I love her all the same ♥

High school: Is now a distant memory to me, thank God.

When I’m nervous: I mess with my hair a lot ><"

The last song I listened to was: Parachute - Cheryl Cole

If I were to get married right now my best man/maid of honor: Would definitely be my little sister!

My hair is: In dire need of a trim, style and colour.

When I was 5: I enjoyed dressing like a sailor apparently ;)

Last Christmas: Was average... I didn't even get to spend it with just the family, what an outrage!

I should be..: Saving money? Writing my Fashion & Culture essay? Meh.

When I look down I see: My laptop.

The happiest recent event was: Jackie & Max's wedding yesterday - so beautiful and emotional.

If I were a character on ‘Friends’ I’d be: Rachel Green without a doubt.

By this time next year: I will be 20. Oh em gee.

My current gripe is: I have a cold and I frikken hate colds. They make me feel so gross :(

I have a hard time understanding: The male species. I may as well give up & join a nunnery! Care to join me? ;)

There’s this girl I know that: Spends way too much time over 100 miles away from me ><"

I like you when: You read my blog and leave me pretty things to read.

If I won an award, the first person I would tell would be: My Mum.

Take my advice: Always jump into new things with both feet.

The thing I want to buy: Floral faded shorts, pearl and lace top, Canon 1000D, tan moccasins, Chanel 2.55... oh I could easily go on with this list!

If you visited the place I was born: You would be quite surprised I think.

If you spent the night at my house: We would probably order a pizza, watch some films, have a bottle of wine and have a gossip/pampering sesh.

I’d stop my wedding if: My parents weren't there.

The world could do without: Bad spelling & grammar. I'm serious.

I’d rather lick the belly of a cockroach than: Eat one? :p

Most recent thing I’ve bought myself: Um... ice cream? LOL. I can't even remember, it was more likely something from Topshop or Lush.

Most recent thing someone else bought me: Mum bought my cinema tickets the other evening.

My middle name is: Michelle. My first name is actually my Chinese name, so yeah... complicated stooff all in all!

In the morning I: Am probably still asleep to be honest! Mornings exist only when I have Fashion & Culture lectures (sometimes), if I have somewhere amazing to be (hardly) or when I work (next to never!).

The animals I would like to see flying besides birds are: Pigs. Imagine all the sh*t that would go down when pigs fly ;) Stole this off a Facebook group before you actually believe that I'm highly witty!

Once, at a bar: The fashion girls and I got approached by 20+ drunk Parisien men. It was extremely entertaining and cringey!

Last night I was: At Jackie & Max's wedding :)

There’s this guy I know who: I'm on and off with.

If I was an animal I’d be: A cat probably. Because I nap a lot. Or a dormouse, because I also enjoy hibernation.

A better name for me would be: Not a clue!

Tomorrow I am: Spending the day with my Mummy ♥ And then perhaps I shall work on my essay.

Tonight I am: Watching Pirates of the Carribean on BBC3 ;) Yum Captain Jack Sparrow!

My birthday is: 2nd March.

 That's your lot! Enjoy!

XOXO

Review: Lush Bubble Bars

Feeling quite uninspired for a "proper" blog at the moment, so to keep you going, here are a couple of Lush reviews on products I was recently given for my birthday. All of these products were gifts or bought with my own money.

The Comforter Bubble Bar
£3.95 - 200g

I know that there are probably hundreds and thousands of reviews of this product in the bloggisphere. However, I absolutely adore this product and think it deserves all the recognition it can get - especially to my new followers who might not have tried the Lush experience already.

This bubble bar smells unbelievable - nice and sweet, kind of a sugary blackcurrant scent. It is quite moisturising, and I have managed to get 5 uses out of it, because it is so big haha! Produces plenty of bubbles, even when you only use a small portion of it :) Oooh and it turns your bathwater into a beautiful deep pink/purple colour.

Definitely purchasing another couple of these!

Creamy Candy Bubble Bar
£2.27 - 100g

Just like the Lush website states, this bubble bar smells like custard creams. Nommy! I hadn't thought about the link between this product and custard creams haha, but it actually does smell just like it. It turns your bath a pale pink colour, but left my skin slightly greasy?

However, the lovely scent lingers forever, and I quite like this product... the greasiness is nothing a little bit of dusting powder won't sort out!

Enjoy my lovelies!

Printed Denim

Monday, 29 March 2010

Denim is one of this season's hottest trends, as I'm sure you're all aware. Whether it is denim jackets and waistcoats, or the risky venture into the double denim look, the trend is no longer restricted to just jeans.

My favourite interpretation on the high street of the denim trend is printed denim. On paper, it sounds dodgy beyond belief, inspiring images of those oh-so-popular stonewash, flared jeans with questionable stars and flowers printed on them from when I was about 5, but in practise, Topshop have got it oh-so-right.

I think I need the Faded Floral shorts in my life pronto!

Any of my beautiful followers kind enough to bring me one of these?!

Fashion Futures

Sunday, 28 March 2010

Even though I'm way into my first year at Uni, I still feel worried about the Future and all that it entails. My degree is pretty specialised - Writing Fashion & Culture - so I'm probably going to be pretty limited for jobs.

I think that if my dreams of becoming a fashion journalist or editor don't work out, I would quite enjoy working in PR or visual merchandising. Or failing that, fashion buying? And then opening up my own little boutique?

So worried and excited about graduating in 2 years time *gasp* - it makes me nervous just thinking about it, especially when I think about how quickly first year of Uni has flown by :O

Anyone else at Uni also feeling the pressure?

Uni Piece: “You’ve got a very important date...”

Saturday, 27 March 2010

One of my assignments for Uni this semester was to write a 500-word blog. So now that I'm ready to hand in, I thought I'd post it on here! The brief was to write a blog in an online style, and provide media considerations. Enjoy!

I'm sure you'll all familiar with this important date by now, and if not: where have you been hiding?! Three months into 2010 brings an impressive Alice in Wonderland revival in the form of Tim Burton and Disney's quirky-cool take on the classic childhood story.

With clothing lines both on the catwalk and high street, jewellery lines selling out quicker than you can scream “Off with her head!”, and an overwhelming influx in Wonderland merchandise, expectations are high as I finally sit in the crowded Cineworld cinema, sweet popcorn in one hand, overpriced soft drink in the other and a teacup necklace strung around my neck.

Never has a film gained such a following; merchandise now includes a Mad Hatter’s hat and wig (available to purchase at Claire’s Accessories), a range of tops at Miss Selfridge, make-up palettes and designer collections, widening the target audience to... well, everyone.

I must admit, I have completely fallen for the beautiful Wonderland theme. In the past month, I have obsessively bought or coveted jewellery with teacups, hearts, playing card or rabbit charms dangling from them. I have lusted over the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows. I’ve even stood in front of the Printemps store on Boulevard Haussman in Paris, admiring the exquisite heels exclusively created by Nicholas Kirkwood for their Alice in Wonderland window display.

Much of the focus was placed on Burton, having directed many dark, quirky and original films, and the audience’s curiosity into Burton’s collaboration with Disney elevated as Alice in Wonderland 3D was released in the UK on 5 March 2010.

As the lights dim and people shuffle in their seats, a lilting soundtrack provided by Danny Elfman (a regular collaborator with Burton) garners much tittering and excitement in the crowded cinema. And so I fell down the Rabbit Hole...

After a slow opening, (I must admit, I’d unrealistically been expecting a whale of imagination to be crammed in the first few minutes of the film, which focuses on a 19-year-old Alice’s engagement) the film was a perfectly eccentric take on the classic tale. It even made me feel slightly sad that I would never be able to fall down, or fit into, a Rabbit Hole to take me to Wonderland. The star-studded cast, brimming with talent, speedily got the film on its footing, with the amazing Jabberwocky battle scene and gothic forest imagery as would only be expected from a Tim Burton masterpiece. Bringing a new lease of life to the timeless tale, Burton also allows the audience’s imagination to run wild, especially with the crazy and quirky Mad Hatter, played admirably by Johnny Depp, by far the most interesting character.

Tim Burton is known for his uncanny ability to uncover new possibilities with projects. It comes as no surprise that Burton’s latest masterpiece stars actors and actresses who frequently collaborate with him, such as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman.

Verdict? It is hard to believe that Lewis Carroll penned this extraordinarily fabulous tale over a hundred years ago. Burton has revamped every last detail of this story to a perfect finish, creating an unforgettable cinematic experience. Mia Wasikowska gives a flawless performance as a grown-up Alice – I can’t wait to see more of her work! I think it’s safe to say that Alice in Wonderland 3D was worth every penny... even if it doesn’t pay for entry to Wonderland itself. So come on then: you’re late for tea!

Disney Stars' Fashion

Thursday, 25 March 2010

With all the media commotion fretting over Miley Cyrus sporting a more grown-up look, possibly giving the wrong image out for her millions of dedicated young fans and attempting to carve her way in the 'proper' acting world, it came as a bit of a shock to me to be browsing Just Jared and actually begin to realise that these Disney stars have recently acquired some serious style.

Being associated with the powerful brand of Disney comes with some street cred knockdowns in The Normal World. You assume that they always come with the plastered cheesy grin, fan-waving hand, denim jackets (although these have made a return now too - a fashion revolution must be on our hands!) and their respectable TV shows. Hannah Montana, The Wizards of Waverly Place, Unfabulous, Sonny with a Chance - Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Emma Roberts and Demi Lovato have begun to up their game, determined to stop being referred to as teeny boppers.

Admittedly, I'm personally not a big fan of any of these girls haha, with the exception of Selena Gomez (and my absolute love, Taylor Swift ♥ who isn't a Disney star but is always mistaken for one) but their personal style has caught my eye... and held it.

Guilty Pleasures

I saw this post on Emma's blog here and decided it made a really good read, so I just HAD to hop on the bandwagon and repost with my own (long list of) guilty pleasures. So c'mon girls, we all have our guilty pleasures... how do you plead?

♥ Watching The Hills on repeat constantly. I much prefer the earlier seasons because it is so fake recently. Lauren Conrad is one of my ultimate style icons and 'I'd Like To Meets'. Even though Lauren is no longer in the show *sob*, I still love watching it just to bash Spencer the Pratt and attempt to decipher which scenes are staged.

♥ Tweeting about every single occurance in my life. I know this probably annoys people as much as it annoys me haha. I just Tweet incessantly about the non-happenings that I come across in my day-to-day life. STILL can't stop doing it though... *slaps wrist*

♥ Joining a ridiculous amount of those groups and fanpages on Facebook. Yes, I'm one of those people. I can't help it though! They just all seem to relate to me or make me laugh! One thing that bothers me though, is when they are spelt wrong or all in capitals, or with bad grammar etc. Gr.

♥ Like Emma - putting my pyjamas on as soon as I get back to the flat!

♥ Creme Eggs. I don't feel too guilty about this one actually; it is Creme Egg season after all! Also recently, Flake bars once again, now that they're running the BeneFit promotion. I won with my first bar and now I'm addicted, gaining weight and not winning any more lipsticks.

♥ Popping into the City Centre on the way home from Uni for a "browse" and usually returning with several shopping bags. Being a Uni student, I seriously cannot afford to indulge in non-essential shopping trips.

♥ Putting my music up extremely loud in my Uni room, and then complaining when my neighbour does the same haha. I think this same situation happens in every room in all honesty... I just find pleasure in it because I can almost always hear them complaining.

♥ Having all of Justin Bieber's songs on iTunes. *hangs head in shame*

What are your guilty pleasures?

Style Inspiration: Leighton Meester

Tuesday, 23 March 2010

If you follow me on Twitter, not only will you be constantly updated on the non-happenings in my life, you lucky things, but you'll probably also be aware of my adoration and obsession with Gossip Girl ♥

Leighton Meester is one of my style inspirations and has been for the past three years now. She is absolutely adorable in a quirky, dorky way :3 I also love how she completely pulls off the preppy and classic outfits worn by Blair Waldorf (her character in Gossip Girl), but in real life, sports an edgier, rocky look, and then further mixes up to look drop-dead gorgeous on the red carpet.

Ins & Outs #3

Ins & Outs #3

INS:
♥ Spent an entire week in one location for the first time in a month. It feels good not to have to worry about packing and unpacking, or forgetting random items like my toothbrush.

♥ Viv, my Writing for Multimedia lecturer, loved my blog and feature pieces for my portfolio! *does a happy dance* I am a massive nerd, and little things like these make me happy.

♥ Bought a beautiful blouse/top from H&M that I could totally pass off as a beautiful dress ;) It was only £19.99 as well - pretty damn bargainous in my opinion!

♥ Went to Emily and Leanne's flat for girly pre-drinks before going out with the fashion girls :) I did get ridiculously drunk... apologies to the fashion girlys if you are reading haha! May have stained the said top from above... But all-in-all, it was a pretty good night.

♥ Tidied my room :D Love a bit of organisation in my life.

♥ De-stained my pretty top with hairspray! I should be a professional stain remover person haha. Or not...

♥ Bought a Flake bar to satisfy my chocolate cravings and... I won a BeneFit lipgloss! Once you win, you get a choice of 5 different products, from which I chose BeneFit Her Glossiness in 'Life on The A List', which is now heading my way :D

♥ I reached 100+ followers, yay!

OUTS:
♥ Am nearing the end of a semester, which means nearing the end of free money student loan. Extremely sad times.

♥ Probably going to fail my ridiculously difficult Fashion History essay. Pfft.

♥ Stained my beautiful top :(

♥ Did I already mention lack of money? PSH. I'LL MENTION IT AGAIN. I don't do well with a lack of money.

♥ While in my drunken state, I bruised pretty much all of both of my legs. It looks hidious. And it's extremely painful to kneel down or rest my legs against anything.

Topshop Lust

Adding these to my wishlist:

Lace Tie Waist Top - £32 - Topshop

Butterfly Lace Frill Hem Top - £32 - Topshop

Mulberry Adoration

Who hasn't casually sat and flicked through a magazine, spying on the gorgeous It bags slung over a celebrity's shoulder? Who hasn't lusted over a Mulberry satchel for months on end? Oh it sucks to be a student sometimes... Or I could go without the food shopping for several weeks in exchange for this baby!

I saw this gem in Lula Issue 10 and am in love with it. One day, there WILL be a Mulberry handbag named after me ^____^

100 Followers! I LOVE YOU!

Friday, 19 March 2010

Tonight I reached 100 followers on this blog :D Thank you all, I love you! It's so strange to think that my beautiful 100 like what I write... it's what I want to do (kind of) in the future, so thank you so SO much. When I finally run my own magazine, you'll be receiving freebie issues all the time ;)

Hope you all have amazing weekends!

Review: Lush Sugar Babe Sugar Scrub

Wednesday, 17 March 2010

Been slacking a little bit on the ol' blogging, I'm sorry ><" I've been busy with Uni work and other such things that get in the way of my spare time... The Easter break is coming up though, so expect lots of pretty things to read, etc. then!

I suffer from rough skin on my upper arms which needs a LOT of exfoliating on a regular basis. Having just run out of my FCUK Sugarscrub (which smells yummy and vanillary but leaves my skin greasy), I decided to give this a whirl.

Sugar Babe Sugar Scrub
£2.60 - 100g

Everyone complains that this scrub hurts like a bitch when you use this product, but if you crush the scrub, the 'pain' is actually quite bearable. I like to cut my Lush sugar scrubs up into two or three chunks to get maximum use out of it.

Personally, I prefer the green sugar scrub to this product. The only real difference with Sugar Babe is that it was supposed to be more perfumed, had coconut oil in the middle and was also meant to be more moisturising.

Problems? It didn't smell particularly yummy as expected, and the smell doesn't last either. The coconut oil in the middle honestly made no difference to the product at all, and it didn't feel moisturising.

Having said that, it did exfoliate and scrub the rough skin (sexaaay, I know!) away really well, so plus points on the practical side ;) I don't think I'll be purchasing this again, perhaps I'll stick to the green sugar scrub!

Romantic Photoshoot from Today

Saturday, 13 March 2010

Today I went to Stanborough Park in Welwyn Gdn City with Sharon + Selina to shoot a photoshoot for my Uni work ;)

We had a lot of fun with running in and out of the skanky toilets to change looks, gained a LOT of weird looks from dog-walkers, little kids and random people walking by, but I got lots of lovely shots ^_____^

I'm quite proud of how the shoot turned out, considering it was my first time using a DSLR camera properly, as opposed to using one and just taking random pictures :3

I obviously won't post the exact photographs that'll be in my feature, but here are a couple of images that I shot, apologies for the tags, they are neccessary, and click to enlarge any photos:

Ultimate Wish List: Oasis Book of Charms

Friday, 12 March 2010

While on my annual (duh, it has to be annual :p) birthday shopping trip with Mum, I came across the most beautiful Book of Charms in Oasis.

For my birthday last year, a friend bought me an empty charm bracelet and a singular charm to add on it. Over the year, I'd completely forgotten about it in favour of the various charm bracelets that I've purchased, which already come adorned with charms.

So while on my birthday trip at Westfield London, Mum and I had our eye out for charms to add on my lonely forgotten one, and Oasis had the most perfect set ever:

Although it is a necklace, I would have placed some of the 12 charms on my bracelet, and the others on the necklace to create a matching set.

The 12 charms include:
  • All Fall Down - a dainty little leaf
  • Note to Self - a tiny notebook
  • Early Bird - a sparrow/magpie/bird? Haha, noob ^____^"
  • Storm in a Teacup - a teacup
  • Queen of Hearts - a simple heart
  • Love Letter - just what its' name suggests ;)
  • I'm A Little Teapot - 5 guesses?!
  • Let's Dance - a flamingo
  • Take a Seat - minature chair
  • Dragonfly
  • All a Flutter - a gold butterfly
  • Gold Rush - I think this is just a gold leaf charm with a pink sphere?

The charms were all reminscent of an Alice in Wonderland theme, as has everything recently! The only downside was that the Book, which came ribbon-bound and presented in an illustrated book-shaped box, was £85, and I couldn't let my Mum splash out on that for me!

What's on your wishlist at the moment?

My Make-Up Storage

Wednesday, 10 March 2010

I bought an adorable set of drawers from WHSmith (a stationers in England) on Monday, with the intention of storing my make-up in it. Compared to the majority of beauty/fashion bloggers, my own make-up collection is quite limited at the moment. Also, since I'm at Uni, my products are divided halfway between home and my Uni room haha!

How adorable are these drawers please?! Covered in little cupcakes, and in pastel pinks and blues :3 On the top of my drawers I have:

- LUSH Candy Fluff Dusting Powder
- Owl Embroidered Compact Mirror
- Mini Magnifier Mirror (for tweezing eyebrows etc.)
- Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette ♥
- Nail varnish collection :)

Being a total organisation NERD, I've organised my drawers in the general order that I'd use the products haha! My first drawer contains face products:

- GOSH Touch Up Concealer in no.2
- BeneFit High Beam Highlighter
- Sephora Smoothing Primer
- Clarins Daily Energiser/Wake Up Booster
- BeneFit Dr. Feelgood (adore this product!)
- BeneFit Dallas Powder

Then I have my mascaras, and eyelash/eyebrow equipment ;) For someone who has extremely short eyelashes, I haven't got many products with me... God knows where my Lancome Hypnose, Defencils or eyelash serums have disappeared to in this, I'm assuming they are 70+ miles away at home!

- No 7 Heated Eyelash Curlers
- Mister Mascara Eyelash Curlers (+ replacement rubbers)
- Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
- MaxFactor Falsh Lash Effect Mascara
- MaxFactor Masterpiece Mascara
- Rimmel Glam Eyes Mascara
- Ms Make-Up Tweezers (hate these ><")
- Elite Professional Tweezers (my favourite along with Bourjois tweezers!)

Then I like to put my pencils and brushes together. Currently searching for the perfect pencil pot to put all my brushes in ^______^ In here I have:

- Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Pencil
- Maybelline Eyeliner-Matic
- 2x Barry M Duo Kohl Pencils
- Black and Lilac Barry M Glitter Eye Crayon
- Aube Bronze Eyeshadow & Eyeliner Duo
- Ruby & Millie 7mm Eye Smudge Brush
- Ruby & Millie 7mm Eye Liner Brush
- Ruby & Millie 7mm Medium Eye Brush
- Elizabeth Arden Fine Eyeliner Brush

Until I wrote this post, I never realised how many lipglosses I possess. I don't even use these on a regular basis ^__^" Shockingly, I only have ONE lipstick as well :O Such a make-up noobie! My Barry M dazzle dusts and BeneFit Show Offs are kept in here as well:

Hand creams, cuticle butters and nail varnish removers are kept in this drawer. Absolutely adore The Sanctuary, and Soap & Glory for these purposes.

And finally, the big drawer! I keep my compacts, palettes and LUSH goodies in here! I actually have a lot more palettes than this, but they are kept in my bedroom at home, therefore aren't pictured...

I hardly possess any products ><" How do you all store your make-up products? Recommend me some lipsticks and palettes to purchase?

Review: Lush Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly

Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Long time no review! The past week has been crazy, but I'm back with a Lush review for you ;)

The birthday fairy (in the form of my amazing Mum and some of the lovely flatmates) brought me a bundle of Lush goodies :D Included in these were: Blackberry bath ballistic, The Comforter bubble bar, Creamy Candy bubble bar, Rock Star soap, Sweetie Pie shower jelly and a Shimmy Shimmy massage bar. I'll be reviewing these all as soon as possible.

Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly
£2.30 - 100g

I've always had issues with shower jellies, because I thought they were just impossible to use. Sweetie Pie smells unbelievably nice. Like seriously. So sweet and yummy. In fact, it is pretty much Vimto in a jelly form, and you girlys all know how much I adore Vimto =D

My flatmate said after using Whoosh shower jelly that she could 'never go back to shower gel' and I know exactly what she means! The shower jelly lathers really well, and smells gorgeous in the shower. You can keep it frozen or chilled as well, which is what I do.

The only downside is my skin sometimes feels a little dry afterwards, but I actually think this is because I don't exfoliate when I use it? I would definitely recommend this product over and over again.

And to finish: how thankful and overexcited are we all that Gossip Girl came back last night?! Exactly where would we all be without the scheming but lovable ways of Blair Waldorf , the amazing laidback fashion of Serena van der Woodsen, the gorgeousness of Chuck Bass and weird and wonderful ways of reigning Queen J? :) I won't ruin the surprise for you, but what an amazing return to Season 3. Click here to watch.

Just a quick photo blog, because it would take me forever to write about what I actually did in Paris. Enjoy!

Absolutely adore this colour, it looks perfect to go with this summer's nude colours trend. The brush is also amazing :D
