Good evening my lovely ladies! Hope you are all well and enjoying *ahem* the snow? I thought I would post something a little different today, I didn't have any inspiration for an outfit post, due to the cold weather leaving me with next to no options, and to crush my "style blogger" status even further, as I type, I'm still sat in my pyjamas! Oops! In the fashion world, you are generally either a shoes or handbag girl: I am most definitely a handbag girl, I own over 20 bags (still hard to admit!) and always have at least two more on my wishlist.

Let's set the scene: Last September, I packed my suitcase (and about 3 boxes, 2 huge Ikea bags...) and moved to Southampton to study at University. As some of you will know, London Fashion Week and Freshers Week tend to fall on the same week, so accompanied by some girls from my Uni course, who I hadn't met until that exact morning, off we ventured to London for London Fashion Weekend. LFWE is the public part of London Fashion Week, commercialised for the public to buy discounted items from the designers who showcased their collections in the week.

And it was here that I fell in love with my first "self-purchased" designer handbag! Obviously it was heavily discounted, being a few seasons out of date, so I nabbed this sweet number for just £75 with my summer job savings. It was my first big splurge since I'd had a part-time job, so I chose wisely and do not regret this decision at all. Sadly, Luella is now out of business ): I still haven't quite got over this fact yet, but I'm glad I now have two of her pieces as keepsakes. I use this bag for Uni, to go shopping, as an overnight bag... It's an oversized tote bag, with the loveliest 'Regal Plaque' design on the front. Made of a buttery soft, pale pink/nude leather, with a suede lining, I am still in love with this over a year later.

What was your first big splurge? And more importantly, are you a shoes or handbag kinda gal?

  1. you know how i roll ;) firstly WOOOP! on the saving! that is immense! i managed to score my Luella bag in the sale, i am truly gutted that she closed down before i even got the chance to ever afford her pieces! She was my al time fav designer boo! i think ours may be from the same season because i have the clip lock too!

my first splurge was my Mulberry baywater, but that was before they were 'in' (ooo) but a hell of a lot cheaper, i saved everrrry penny (and i bit of help from my student loan diddnt go a miss ;)) but i'm so glad i bought it! since then, apart from my Luella bag, i've havent bought a single bag, i havent needed too! (i should bloody well think so too lol. but err watch this space, after christmas sales!

but i bloody love your bag though! xxxxx

as you can tell i'm a hand bag girl ;P

  2. the bag is gorgeous, such a good purchase. i've never really splurged much on an item, but one day i do hope to own a designer bag :) i'd say i'm more of a bag person to shoes in the sense that i'd much rather a new bag, but i buy more shoes than bags because i get more wear out of them and rarely can afford a nice new bag :) xo

  4. oooo Luella, that is one great bag! I love the colour. I've never splurged on anything designer seeing as I'm only 17 but i defiantly will soon (when i get a job ahem) still searching haha and when I'm a little older. I'm thinking a Chanel bag! I'm actually both I love shoes AND bags, but then again i do own more bags then shoes...

  5. I know. It's such a shame Luella doesn't exist anymore, because this bag is stunning! My first bug splurge has to be my oversized Mulberry Alexa. And I don't regret that at all either x

  9. that bags lovely! I'm also a handbag girl but my biggest splurge has to be on a pair of nude, soft leather, peep toe platform Jimmy Choo's! (I've only worn them once!) They were £395 & I got them from The London Jimmy Choo. I didn't spend that much though, thankfully my mum brought half so we have a shoe each really!
I can't bring myself to wear them again incase they get ruined. Maybe on my wedding day?! xo

  10. I'm saving for a Quilted Chanel Chain bag, that's my dream handbag and worthy of being my first big splurge, and also answers the question of shoes or hangbag gal! :D Your Luella bag is absolutely gorgeous! xoxo avs

  13. I KNEW YOU'D APPRECIATE THIS POST SARAH! i hadn't even planned to buy a luella at the event, but hey, the money was there, bag was there ;) me too, i'd been planning to buy a purse to go along with the bag, but it isn't the same buying a second-hand one! ): aaah a mulberry alexa or bayswater is currently on my wishlist, alongside the ever-present chanel 2.55! i'm hoping to get a job and save to get a shiny new designer bag in the summer <3

jennie: thanks lovely! handbags and food are the two things i'm willing to splurge money on at the moment (: i'm not too fussed about shoes, i wear the same three or four pairs of shoes on rotation haha!

rebecca: thank you (: oh i own a few primark bags too, cheap and cheerful, and their designs aren't too bad at the moment! i prefer to change my bags around instead of shoes, i tend to wear the same pair of boots, black flats or moccasins all the time!

rose: thank you sweet! i love the colour too, especially because i wear a lot of dark colours, it makes a nice contrast! a chanel 2.55 is number one on my wishlist STILL, i've accepted i'll only be able to afford one when i've graduated and gotten myself a good job!

vicky: luella had the loveliest designs! so girly and quirky, and her dresses were beautiful! oh you lucky girl, i must admit i'm always jealous when i see your alexa in your outfit posts!

jenny: thank you! oh i like your thinking ;) no discrimination and all that!

charly: oh gosh, i only own about 10 pairs, and wear about 3 pairs on a regular basis! eeep!

eleanor: thank you! i knowww, had to snap it up, i think the original price was £350 or something crazy! and i don't really mind that it's a few seasons old, bags don't tend to be as season-specific as clothes!

alice: thank you! oh my, those sound absolutely beautiful! you should totally blog about them so i can swoon over gorgeous shoes!

alana: girl after my own heart! <3 we never took our alexa photos ):

sarah: me too, i couldn't believe it when i heard the sad news! must get my hands on her book when i eventually come into some money again aha!

    kirsty: thank you (:

irene: yup ): i know, i had a lovely list of possible items to buy that i can't now! boooo!

I am OBSESSED with bags (which I am sure you know reading my blog and following me on Twitter) lol!
My first big bag splurge was on a gorge, classic expresso patent leather Marc by Marc Jacobs bag which I got in the sale on net-a-porter.com for just under £200!

danni: thank you! oh gosh, i still haven't got a car or taken my test, although if i hadn't been terrified of driving at 17, a car probably would have been my first splurge too (:

  33. I am definitely a shoes girl I own cupboards full of shoes and boots , yet I only have a few handbags and they are mostly all broken ha. However, I do love designer handbags, and if I'm ever rich I will probably switch to be a handbag girl as I could fawn over Mulberry and Chanel all day and your bag is gorgeous too and it's quite special that you have a Luella bag that now no-one else can get hold off. Lovely buy :) x
